The main function of GALVESTON's Marine Detachment is to provide a unit organized, trained, and equipped for oper- ation the ship's landing force. The Marine Detachment's daily routine consists of standing security watches throughout the ship. The Captain's and Executive Officer's orderlies are also provided for by the Marines, They are often called upon to render honors to visiting dignitaries and high ranking officers, GALVESTON 's Marines man a 5 gun mount during general quarters.
