Charles Putensen LIGHT THAT FUSE, presented by the Junior Class, was outstanding for its unique characters and rapid, fresh dialogue. Concerning itself with two young College men and a girl who attempt to create their own places in the world, the plot entails many humorous situations which arise on the first day of their business experience, as they organize Fixit, lncorporated, an enterprise dedicated to fixing the ills of the nation. A decided lack of money in the company treasury necessitates the use of boxes which they find in their deserted office, instead of furniture. As Dave Thompson, the youthful president says, L'lVlaybe the customers will think that genius is erratic. To this office come pretty Helen Duval, Dave's wealthy sweetheart, who wants to help the business alongg Mr. and Mrs. ,l. Wiggenthal Hart, a hen-pecked husband and his stern wifeg Rosemary Laurence, a problem in herselfg her admirer, Artis L. Thorpe, secretary to the Laurence family, and rather de- tective-mindedg Henry Oglevie, a manufacturer searching for a radio artistg and Phoebe Hornblow, a poet of unique ability, in answer to his prayers. Joining the vice-president of the firm. l rog',gy Edwards, and the secretary, Alice Cray, this group of people who need something fixed furnished a multitude of rib-cracking laughs. Mystery, Ma, hem and Murder Nail-biting suspense, spectacular thrills, plus an entire eve- ning of laughter were all combined in the Senior Class Play, Mystery, Mayhem, and Murderff' Domineering Juliet Brighton suddenly decides to have their town house done over and informs her meek, mild-mannered husband Boniface they will open their summer home to escape the mess made by the workmen. Boni- face rebels, but, as usual, he has to give in to Juliet. The latter sends their charming daughter, Wendy, on ahead to open up the house, but when Mr. and Mrs. Brighton get off the train in the country Wendy is not there to meet them. They go on to their summer home and wait for Wendy. When she does arrive she is brought in by a stranger--Verne Early. He claims he found her in front of a house up the road and that she was unconscious. When Wendy comes to she is very evasive about what happened. The Brightons settle down in their country place and that is when baffling and mysterious things begin to happen. Loud, mocking laughter is heard coming from upstairs when there isn't supposed to be anybody up there. A womanis body is discovered sitting in a high-backed chair in the living room. She has been murdered! Suddenly the lights go out and when they flash on again the dead woman's body has disappeared! As the plot un- folds the mysterious happenings are cleared up and the household is once again back to normal. Boniface Brighton Juliet Brighton . The Cast Wendy Brighton . . . Etta Pye ........ The atmosphere of Moonlight and Roses and the dreamy music of Bob Con- ley's Combo made the evening a memorable one. Fairy and elf servers appeared from time to time out of the big white house to serve the guests punch and wafers. The honored freshmen included: Sharon Wiese, Carol Bergmann, Virginia Kaster, and Judy Leonard, and Joe Clausen, Loren Clausen, David Vohs, and Mike Kelley. In the center of the floor stood a sparkling blue and white fountain with white roses clinging to the base. Young couples made wishes at the wishing well in the rock garden. Silhouetted behind the band was a large yellow moon shining on a dancing couple. The highlight of the evening was the crowning of the King and Queen. During intermission, Merlin Jensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Jensen and Carol Boothby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Boothby, were crowned Prom King and Queen of 1958. ' At 12:30 the spell of the evening ended amid confetti and colored streamers. All juniors and seniors have many happy memories of this eventful evening. 74 Sponsored by JOSLIN SEED FARMg COAST-TO-COAST: GEBERS MOBIL SERVICE 75 1' an Eff fm- F fm dl K r-657: 5? Q. A Q, 5. .fc , ff- ar SENTGR TRIP Bright and early on the morning of May 20, twen- ty-two seniors and the two sponsors, Mr. Gerber and Mr. Hompland, boarded a chartered bus and headed for Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for their annual Skip Day. As soon as they reached the city, the group went directly to the State Peniten- tiary where they were taken on a guided tour through the institution. They saw the mess hall and kitchen, the industry, living quarters, and rec- reational facilities of the prison which proved to be very interesting and educational. When the tour was completed, the group went downtown to Le- mond's for lunch. The seniors were then free to do as they wished until 1 p.m., when they reorganized and took an hour tour of Fenn's Ice Cream Com- pany which was very enjoyable and informative. Once again the group had free time until 4 p.m. After meeting at the bus, the group drove out to the J oe Foss Airport and saw planes coming in and taking off. By this time it was time to head for home. Once in Sioux City the group stopped to eat supper and then completed the journey home. All agreed that it was a memorable interval of their high school days. 4' a 5D0nS0fed by HAWLEY-ALLISON, Cherokee ond MALLORY DI GRADU TID DAYS KAREN BARcHoLs BONNIE BLACKMER CAROL BOOTHBY WILLIAM BRANDT KAREN BU'rcI-IER WENDELL CONOVER LORRAINE GRIFFITH ALFRED HAss NANCY HENRICHSEN DENNIS HUESCHEN STEVEN JANSSEN MERLIN JENSEN W e have crossed J oIIN LECKBAND KUR1' LEONARD MYHNA NIEMEIER LOYD REINEKE DARLENE RICE MARJORIE SCI-IUBER1' LUELLA SCHUETT: REETA Scorr DOLORES STEEN LAVoNNE TIMMERMAN SHIRLEY TIMMERMAN PIIYLLIS Vous CLASS MOTTO the bayg The oce Cmss FLowER Deep Pink Rose CLASS COLORS Rose and Silver an lies before I. We must now make our place in the world. In this Moo we have tried to depict some of the memorable events of our last year in Holstein High. As we seniors leave our Alma Mater, we would like to express our gratitude to Mr. Hompland and Mr. Gerber, our class sponsorsg and to all the other teachers for their patience and understanding as they instructed us and guided us throughout our school years. Without their help, we could never have enjoyed the opportunities that we have today. 80
