lllll Hllllll Turning back the pages of memory, we recall many happy occurences of our childhood school-days. We want you to go back with us a minute or two while we relate to you the most outstanding. ln the fall of i936 another class started kindergarten under the supervision of Miss Sohrn. Of the twenty-one who began together, one half were able to keep pace with one another through the thirteen years. They are: Dolores Michaelsen, Arlene Gries, Dolores Lemke, James Langland, Robert Vollmar, Don Vollmar, Val Gene Moeller, Loren Lorenzen, Elwayne Maser, Floyd Soseman, and Harold Schubert. After a year of ABC's and a little disciplining we first directed our little footsteps to the new building, where, through the efforts of Miss Gray, we were introduced to our first lessons in readin', 'ritin', and 'rithmetic. These we passed with flying colors. The fun, it seemed, had only begun. Each day Miss Glorfeld held oral reading classes for the fairies and brownies in the little red chairs at the front of the room. Back in the old building again we enrolled in the third grade. Our fun had now vanished and it was down to brass tacks under the guidance of Miss Manteufel. But there is always more to learn, so up a flight of stairs where, under direction of Miss Steig, we got our first taste of six-weeks' tests and proved to her we had a memory longer than our nose. We enjoyed the superiority of Miss Edwards and it was smooth sail- ing through grade five. lt was under Miss Kitchen that life became more complicated. After learning that our head was put on our shoulders for a purpose and after a year of hard studies, we became members of Junior High school. These were enjoyable years under Misses Parry and Johnson. Our greatest achievements were our two plays, The Knave of Hearts and America on Parade. We also started an English Club in eighth grade. Then came that most dreaded year. Freshmen and initiation. But we faced those hard-fighting seniors and survived initiation. Our sopho- more year was about the same as our freshmen except that we considered ourselves a little wiser. Another summer rolled by and we became juniors. This was a busy and eventful year. Preparations were made for the big Jr.-Sr. Prom. The time came when we were to enroll in old Holstein High for the last time and as seniors we administered the initiation jolts just as we had received them. That is the history of the Class of '48, As we look over these glorious days, we can honestly say that we will never regret them and we want to thank our parents for giving us such an opportunity. We'll not forget our teachers who have so patiently taught us and prepared us for stepping out into the world. As we proceed through life, we will remember Not failure, but low aim is crime.
