After getting adjusted to new faces. books. and working conditions, they began the task of earning grades and pleasing the upper classmen. You can always tell a Freshman By his eagemess to please. You can always tell a Fresman By his lack of social ease. You can always tell a Freshman By his innocence sublime, You can always tell a Freshman But just give him a little time. After a month or so elapsed. the dreaded Initiation Day finally came. Dressed in ridiculous costumes, the Freshmen came to school, not knowing what was in store for them. After a day of foolish stunts and hard-hitting paddles, the Freshmen became full-fledged members of Holstein High School. From then on they continued with their work, taking time out now and then to help out the football and basketball teams, and contributing their share of school spirit. The Freshmen also gave a retum party for their beloved seniors, in return for the Initiation Dance. All this while, the innocent Freshmen were learning the ways of high school life, and becoming an important addition to it. They showed good sportsmanship and pleasing personalities, and now as the year is about to come to a close. they will have advanced another important step and will no longer be the green Freshmen. 20

IIINIQIQ I-IIGI-I ACTIVITIES The high light of this year's junior high activities was the operetta Sunny of Sunnyside , presented in November. Nearly everyone participated, and after a great deal of hard work under the direction of Mis Herzberg, Mis Zell. and Mrs. Christie. it received a large turn-out. To celebrate our hard earned succes, we had a party in the gymnasium. Next in importance were our junior high basketball games. In spite of good, clean playing and a spirited cheering section our games were lost to Battle Creek and Ida Grove. In February we began work for the spelling contest. Jeanne Kolb won the written. and Evelyn Gebers won the oral, making both girls-eligible for the county contest in March. I We were invited throughout the year to numerous high school dances, big events for all of us. Hallowe'en and Christmas were celebrated this year by parties, which were en- joyed by all.
