The second game was lost to Schallet with Quimby taking top honors for two games also. In the first game against Anthon the girls were defeated in a one-point game. The Galva and Meriden sextets both claimed victories over the Holstein sextet by two and three points. C'Ville was a newcomer this year and was no match for the Holstein team. Cushing also fell as the Holstein girls gained speed and accuracy. After connect- ing with two straight victories they took four more before falling to defeat again. Odebolt tumbled after Cushing and next in line came the Anthon outfit. With revenge in their eyes the Holstein girls went in for a kill and got it. C'Ville and Cushing, both return games on the local court, were chalked up in the local list of victories. A powerful Galva team broke the victory line for one game. But the Piratettes came back for four more wins. The Meriden team, who had beaten them two points previously again claimed a two point victory in a close one. Schaller fell to the team on the home floor after a hard fight and a very close score. Aurthur bowed to Holstein in a nip and tuck ball game and the Odebolt ball game proved to be a see- saw, nerve- wracking game with the score jumping one way and another and only seconds to go. Holstein claimed the victory by one point in the last 20 seconds. -025-o

Tli Maple ...,. The boys' basketball quintet, lacking experience, fell before the Aurthur cagers in the first game of the season but came back in the second tilt to down Schaller. Schaller had the long side of the score until the final minutes when Holstein took the lead. The Pirates shared honors with Quimby, losing to them on the home court and defeating them on their own floor. The first conflict with Anthon saw Holstein defeated by a three point margin. In the return game, Holstein went down again by the same three points in a very hard fought battle. Losing to both Galva and C'Ville, Holstein came back and held the high scor- ing Danbury quintet to twenty-two points. Even though they played hard ball, the Holstein Pirates lost the next two encounters to Galva and Kingsley. Schaller fell victim to the Pirates on the local court in a hair-raising game. Again the Pirates lost one of those three point games to the powerful Alta outfit, but this seemed to spur Holstein into action and they conquered Aurthur who had heavily outscored them in the first game of the season. Holstein closed its season by losing two hard and vigorous games to Odebolt and Danbury. MAPLE VALLEY TOURNAMENT The Pirates entered the tournament with fire in their eyes. Round one was with Odebolt, a quintet who had defeated them on the home floor. They proved to be rough and exciting with the Holstein five overpowering the Odebolt team by a score of 27 to 22. The second game was with the powerful favorites. Galva. Holstein fought bravely to the last minute hoping for a victory, but fell by a score of 29 to 20. The third evening Hol- stein met the Danbury cagers in the consolation game. The Pirates were a little cold on their shots and free throws that night and Danbury claimed a victory of 38 to 10. -Q2 4-cr BOYS BASKETBALL tophersen, A. Goettsch, L. Lorenzen. V Moeller. Front: A.
