CLASS HISTORY As we turn back the pages of time to a bright September morning in 1929 we see a group of youngsters experiencing one of the red letter days of their lives their first day of school Because of the size of the class which numbered twenty seven it was divided into two sections each section attending school a half day Under Miss Bentons motherly guidance we learned the principles of cooperation and discipline The next fall found us first graders with Miss Gray to guide us Learning to write was our first ob jective during that year Thmgs we enjoyed were a Christmas program and several parties with the second grade We then crossed the hall and entered second grade for nine months with Miss Glorfeld During t is term we became what we thought advanced students in the three R s Next it was back mto the old building and third grade Miss Isbell took charge of this phase of our edu cation The multiplication tables were daily routme durmg those mne months Then on to fourth grade and it was up the creaky wooden steps to Miss Root s room There it was that we had our first experience in geography Following this Miss Paulsen guided us through fifth grade That year the history of Iowa found its way into our group of subjects welcomed us into sixth grade Another subject was added and we began our first struggle with ancient history Our next two years junior high school with Miss Franck and Miss Meyer as instructors were practically identical However we shall not forget the parties plays and banquets we enjoyed durmg those years Finally came high school the last leg of our education and with the presence of numerous new rural students we entered ninth grade as timid freshmen A royal welcome awaited us yhen we took our part in the much feared initiation we enjoyed it after all With the ending of each day it meant another step toward our goal Now as seniors we look back on our high school days with a longing that we might begm anew for we shall miss the extra curricular activ ities plays parties and other functions in which we have participated Of those twenty seven kindergartners who started school back in 1929 eleven have journeyed the en tire way together They are Laverne Blagof Adalme Ewoldt Robert jackes Russell Kahl Sherman Larson Eunice Lemke Minnie lda Lorenzen Harold Rathert Lois Roehlk Leslie Steen and jack Whitehouse Now we the graduating class of l942 are out on our own but whatever the future holds for us, we shall not forget our happy school days in Holstem . . .
