WRX Q Sponsors: Mr. Soth--Miss Steele. s X SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Eleven years ago quite a large number of little children trudged their first steps to school. Oh, it was wonderful to be able to go to school like their older brothers or sisters and talk of this and that which had before formed vague ideas in their minds! The first year of school was one that will be remembered by all. The number of school children in Holstein had so increased that the rooms were becoming crowded. When we started to school the new building was already under construction, but that did not help us at the time. First we were placed in the basement of the old school building and classes were held here as well as circumstances allowed. Later we were put in the basement of the M. E. Church. The remainder of our first year of school was spent there, and we got our first taste of Readin', 'Ritin', and 'Rithmetic under the in- struction of Miss Williams. The second year we entered the new building. This certainly was ex- citing and wonderful to go to school in a great, big, new building. But with all the newness about us, we had to work, and did. To this Miss Dietrich was sure to attend. Back to the old school building for three more years. These years were mere continuations of the first years. Always learning something new, new studies being added, and, each year, studies getting more difficult to H3NEHENENZHZNZNENENZNZWENZNENZNZNENZNZHENZNZHZHENEHEHZWZNEHZNZNEHZHZNEHE

In the third year Herman R. from Quincy, Ill., E E joined our class. The next year Zelma Will came, and in the fifth grade 2 Bernette Gebers and Louella Wienert joined. These three have stayed with us and helped keep the class going. Ruth Wigodsky also joined in the fourth ENE ENE Q grade and remained with us until we were juniors when she left to enter E E Sioux City H. S. E Q The sixth grade found us back in the new building for good. This E 2 class was taught by Mrs. Besore for whom all the children had very much Ei S respect. This year George Adams, who had been with us from the first S Q grade, left for Texas. 5 E The seventh year we arrived up in the assembly, that great, big room S as NZ 2 :r na 1 cu m o 3 no :s -4 cr o K4 CD N :: o. That did S H not bother us much and soon we were passing to classes just the same as the ns E others. The seventh and eighth grades were taught by Miss judge and Miss E S Cawiezel. In the eighth grade Lauren Soth joined our class. E E At last we entered the senior high, and were termed Green Fresh- E E men. Others before had to take their dose of it and so did we. Many students S 5 from the country came in joining the Freshmen Class and also Dell Geer 3 E from Tipton. These recruits made the class enrollment thirty-eight, so large E 3 a class that it had to be divided for some studies. After joining the senior M QS high the pupils began taking different subjects, the ones they most cared ,E Q for. This separated them in mind but not in heart. E 2 The sophomore year was more or less of a repetition of the Freshman S E year, only we were a little wiser. This year there was great fun with hang- E as ing banners. We discovered that a great many Q E more were capable of acting than was known, although a few, perhaps, were Q E a little flustered and stage struck. 5 E When we were juniors there were more things to think about than E studies. The greatest was earning money to give our banquet. The most of this was obtained by selling magazines for the Curtis Publishing Com- NZM ENE 5 pany. This helped a great deal and more was made by selling home-made E Q candies at football games and having a lunch counter at the Carnival. Later E E came the junior-Senior banquet. A lot of fun it was to plan and decorate E we for this big affair and still try to keep things secret. This was the greatest 2 E event of the junior year. 2 E Now we are Seniors. A great .deal of work is required of us in our E E last year. There is the 'iMoo which has taken a great deal of work.
