Zaye' Z The Galva Blue Devils, long on speed and determination but short on height, had what might be termed a good season in 1955- 56. They closed with a record of 14 victories and 9 defeats against some of the best 'class HA and Bw teams in Northwest Iowa. They reached the finals' of the sectional tournament before bow- ing to an extremely tall St. Mary's of Storm Lake team. The starting five during most of the season was made up of four seniors. Craig Zabel, Roger Lease, Don Webb, and Jerry Jensen, and one junior, Richard Ortner. First row, left to right: Craig Zabel, Don Webb, Richard Ortner, David Biesemeyer, Jerry Jensen, Roger Lease. Second row: Ronald Wagner, John Grapevine, Dale Otto, Manager Gene Nielsen, Gary Getzmier, Richard Ras- mussen, Arnold Else. Third row: Coach Wally Hamann, Everett Collin, Avery Zediker, Vernon Johnson, Lee Radke, Coach Bud Kyle. This means that there will be a re-building job to do in boys' basketball next season. How- ever, some of the underclassmen such as ArnoldEls:, David Biesemeyer, Dale Otto, Ronnie Wag- ner and John Grapevine have seen considerable varsity action. The season had several highlights, including some defeats by narrow margins by some of the better teams. For example, the Galva Cagers played excellent ball, only to lose to such strong teams as Aurelia, Holstein, and Lake View. Theywere hustling all the time, and made it pay off in surprising teams like Odebolt and Battle Creek. The team was not one of a few individual stars, but a unit in which teamwork was the important thing. The boys deserve lots of credit for their never-say-die spirit, and Coach Kyle deserves a pat on the back for shaping them into a smooth working combination. .JERRY JENSEN Senior Sprinter and Relays TRACK SCHEDULE April April April April April April May May May May May 6-Holstein Relays 12-Bo-Pop Relays 13-Pochahontas Relays 20-Sac Relays 24'-Ida County Meet 27-Alta Relays 1-Maple Valley Relays 4-Aurelia Relays 4-Sioux City Relays med As the 1956 track season approaches, prospects for another outstanding track squad are bright. Track has become a major sport at Galva, and a winning tradi- tion is in the making. Last season the Blue Devils missed the class C state championship by just one point, in addition to setting numerous new records at meets throughout North- west Iowa. This was done largely on the strength of a terrific sprint relay team. Only Jerry Jensen, the anchor man, is back from that great relay team. However, the squad this year should have greater balance and depth. Such standouts as Don Webb, Gerald Voge, Craig Zabel, David Biesemeyer, Roger Lease, Frank Winslow, Richard Rasmussen, and George Neilsen should be able to team up with Jensen and some promising underclassmen to roll up the points for Galva in meets this spring. 11-12--Iowa District, Holstein 19-Iowa State Meet First row, left to right: C. Zabel, R. Lease, J. Jensen, G. Voge, D. Webb, G. Nielsen, R. Rasmussen, A. Else, D. Biesemeyer. Second row: Coach Bud Kyle, F. Winslow, A. Brandt, A. Zediker, R. Ortner, R. Schulke, F. Koth, E.
