As we present the inaugural edition of the Galvacade, the staff wishes to thank our sponsors whose names appear throughout the book. Without their generous help, such an undertaking would not have been possible. THE STAFF PAGE TWO Dedication To llur Parents We consider it a privilege to dedicate the first edition of the Galva- cade to the parents of the students ot Galva High. To them we owe whatever honors we can give, because to us they have given everything. lt is they who have made possible these happy days of our youth. Their guidance and sup- port in all our needs are our greatest blessings. We hope in this small way we can show our appreciation and gratitude. Doyle Brown happens to meet Laura Weiland, an old classmate. .They sit down at a table and begin the following conversa- tion. It's been almost lO years since l've seen you, Doyle. My, but you've grown a lot. What have you been doing, Laura? Well, Doyle, l'm an author now. My latest book is 'Men, Men and More Men.' Have you heard what any of our other class members are doing now? l just heard that Le- roy Hansen was elected Mayor of Galva last year, Laura, and Forrey Webb is now coach at that famed Hanover Jr. High. l hear that they were township champions last year. Richard Kiertzner works as the bouncer in the town tavern now. l'll bet he can handle the drunks. What ever happened to Jerry Baxter, Laura? 'He's a home economics teacher in Galva. By the way, Doyle, have you heard from Jimmy Frahm. He's a farmer now and he really sur- prised everyone last year by marrying a former burlesque girl. And l guess Richard Peters has been a busy man the last few years. He has to work night and day to support his family of lO. My brother, Lloyd Weiland, is working in a pet store in Sioux City, selling gold fish and canaries. That's the kind of work he always liked to do. l hear Darlene Graybill taught school for a couple of years and then decided to settle down and raise some of her own pupils. And I read that Jerry O'Meara has been promoted to captain of a tug boat in the U. S. Navy. Elwayne Madison is a buck private in the army now. He's helping to prepare that famous army food. Joe Anna Challman has just filled her life ambition. She gat a contract with the Roxie Rockets, a chorus girl's team. Say, Doyle, did you hear that my old friend, Pat Peter- sen is a nurse in a hospital now. She says one of the interns is interested in her, but I think he's just after her appendix. Francis Hopkins is a truck driv- er now. l guess he needs a strong truck to hold him. And Ronnie Rydberg has an interesting job in a department store, he works in the women's lingerie dept. Jerry Nielsen is the only boy in our class who has dan real well. l hear he has made a fortune by his smart buying an the stock market. And I guess Gaylen Sorensen is a confirmed bachelor now. All he does is paint houses, houses, and outhouses. Well, Laura, it was really interesting hearing what our old classmates are doing, but I have to be going now. l'll see you again. Thus ends our prophecy for the Galva seniors of 1953. ls it correct? Only time will tell. ROGNES, ALL OF HOLSTEIN Homecoming ROYAL PARTY man Attendant, Laura Weil and, Senior Attendant, Queen len, Junior Attendant, and Ju dy Else, Sophomore Attendant One of the annual festivities of the school year is Homecoming. This year Homecoming was held on October 2 and began with the traditional par- ade through Main Street. The parade consisted of floats from each grade of school symbolizing Galva's feeling toward victory. The half-time ceremonies between the Galva-Lytton football game featured the crowning of the Queen and the presentation of her attendants by Supt. Ziesmer. A dance was spon- sored by the Junior Class climaxing the day. Pat was chosen by a popular vote of the entire student body and her attendants by their respective classes. The five girls were attired in formals of pastel colors and made a pretty picture as the center of all attraction for that day. The Royal Party was driven in a convertible chauffered by Harold Elk. Just before the coronation ceremony the group was driven to the middle of the football field and serenaded by the band. .
