The foundation in the building of success is the thorough education offered each student in the acquisition of basic knowledge and the development of proper attitudes. Given a good foundation, our building can now proceed to completion, ever following the Architect's plan. The choice belongs to each student as to the fashioning of his future. The plan for success includes the setting up of goals and striving to achieve goals to the best of your ability. A, E. HECK Principal Just as the architect carefully plans a building and sees to it that the foundation and structure are firm, so should we in building our lives plan carefully and build well, early. May your future success show that each of you has built a firm, well planned foundation or proper attitudes, good habits, skill, and sufficient factual information during your years in school. It is with this in mind thatl wish you much success and satisfaction in your years to come. H. M. ROBERTSON Superintendent MISS YOUNG English, Speech MRS . NASH Mathematics MR. Our varsity this year had a successful five won - four lost record, but with a few breaks it could have been a seven won - two lost record. This year the team always had a weight disadvantage. In spite of having the smallest team in the conference, the boys did exceptionally well. Coach Thomas, in his first year of coaching, did a fine job with the boys. The team wishes to thank him for the many hours of labor he put into developing his team. With several underclassmen playing varsity ball and a good B-squad coming up, Galva can look forward to more good teams in the future. In conference play, the record was 12 wins - 4 losses, which rated second place, only one game behind the champs. A11 four of those games were close onm. They advanced to the finals in the Regional for the second consecutive year, losing to Galesburg. The season's record was 16-10. Richard Falk set a new season's scoring record, making a total of 635 points, 24.423 per game. He was also the winner of the Eugene Anderson Memorial award. The height of these boys is a promising note that in the future the boys will bring Galva many a victory. Ahhough the team only finished 5th i.n the conference race, they played outstanding ball inthe B-Squad tournament and placed a very fine second to Toulon, who played a sophomore who won All-Conference honors. The girls pulled the teams through many a tough spot with the cheering aw' ,clling they could get from the crowd. Their uniforms were unique and the best in the conference for looks and respectability. During the season, the girls put in many hours of practice that made them one of the sharpest cheerleading groups we had seen all year. The boys on the teams were most proud of the Galva cheerleaders during the Galesburg Regional Tournament. They helped organize the Galva Pep Club, which gave the team the needed lift to win two out of the three games, These girls, with their vivid imaginations, made cute signs to put up in the school and to take to the regional. The cheerleaders led the Pep Club in a better display of school spirit and backing from the student body than any other school's. We thank the girls for a wonderful year of backing our school teams. Besides participating in several dual meets, we also entered some of the larger track meets, such as the Fulton Relays, Clinton Gateway Classic, Davenport Relays, and our own Galva Relays. We placed a very good 6th in the Davenport Relays and placed 5th in the Galva Relays. We had 6 dual meets during the season, winning 5 and losing only 1. In the Blackhawk Conference track meet we tied for 2nd place with Wyoming. With a little more luck we might have won the champion- ship for Walnut, but we lacked the depth we needed to win. In the conference meet, Paul Myers won the 880 yard dash and Richard Falk captured the mile r-,.n. This was a good record considering the fact that we had only 3 seniors on the squad. We started the season losing an 11-0 game to R.O.V.A. This one-sided loss could be attributed to our inexperience, since we were playing so many underclassmen. Then, whm it seemed we wereon the verge of losing our second game in a row, we rallied with 12 rtms in the final inning to defeat Wethersfield, 17 -13. This victory lifted our morale, and we won our next two games, defeating Bradford and Manllus. This gave us a 3 won, none loss record going into the final game of the Northern Division in the Blackhawk Conference. In the championship game we lost a very close, 2-1, game to Walnut. Although we got more hits than they did, we just couldn't quite push across the needed runs. With all the underclassmm playing regularly, we can expect even better baseball teams in the future. Here can be found Library Club members who are ready and willing to give assistance. This year's thirty-six members were con- stantly performing their duties which included checking out and shelving books, filing material, and arranging bulletin board displays. A constitution and a set of by-laws were drawn up and adopted by the club. For the first time mem- bers could purchase Library Club pinsg and a high percentage of the membership did so. Many interesting and well-planned programs were presented at the monthly meetings. Book reviews by students and guests made up some of these programs. Early in December a successful bake sale was sponsored. In this project, as in all others, we re- ceived much assistance from our sponsor. We want to thank you, Miss Davis, for all the work you have done for our Library Club. You have helped to make the library a valuable portion in our building for success. FRONT ROW: D. Elliott, D. Instead of piling into a bus bound for Lake Calhoun, we spmt the afternoon entertaining ourselves inthe school. This change of plans was due to Old Man Weather, who favored us not with sunshine but with rain and grey skies. However, we still had a very enjoyable time. Some played volleyball in the gym, while others danced and played cards in the cafeteria. The climax of the evening was the potluck dinner, featuring all the delectable dishes imaginable. After we had eatm till we felt like stuffed turkeys, our senior picnic was overg and we all agreed that we had had a marvelous time. After prolonged riding, we arrived at Kapilana Beach, Osage Beach, Missouri. From the moment we arrived our schedule was filled with activities. The days were filled with visits to Dogpatch, Phantom Acres, Ke1sey's Antique Cars, the Educated Chickens, Ozark Caverns, and Bagnell Water Stopper Dam. The evenings included such entertainment as the Ozark Opry, cruis- ing and dancing on the Larry Don, a hay ride, wiener roasts, and we even spent a rainy evening watching a Charlie Chan movie. Our free time was spent sun-bathing, swimming, boating, hiking, ex- ploring, and having just plain fun. Much too soon Wednesday, June 3, rolled around. We boarded our bus exhausted, broke, and sun- burned, we were all glad to see the old familiar view of Galva. 4 -1 'i K i, xii ff I .
