We' the class of 1956, compare ourselves to acorns who, thru the years, have begun growing into what we hope will become solid oaks in the community, country, and world in the future. This growth has been fostered in the shelter of already standing, sturdy trees, our parents. They, like the giant sheltering oaks of the virgin forests have guided us in our first adventures into life. It is to our parents in appreciation for the many sacrifices toward the fulfillment of our school years that we the class of 1956 proudly dedicate our GALAHI fii L-. 2,2 2L,.f'..,lf.L3 'W X I I Q .Ill Xb 1. . Everyone worked hard to make all the activities undertaken a success. The drums purchased by the Band Boosters were a new feature of the marching band this season. The sparkling gold color of the four snare drums and the large bass drum really set off the appearance of the band. Although we did not get to march at the Homecoming Game because of rain, our other appearances were very much enjoyed by the enthusiastic spectators. With the close of the marching season, the band continued to play by making appearances at the home basketball games. In addition, a Christmas Vesper Service, requiring much preparation, was given, This program consisted of the more serious Christmas music, and each selection was introduced by a member of the senior class. When school was dismissed for Christmas vacation, the band enter- tained at the school assembly. Shortly after the new year began, the band traveled to Wethersfield to play with their band between games and at half-time of the Wethersfield-Galva game. We welcomed this opportunity and carried the Galva spirit and band tradition on in fine fashion. Amidst all these varied activ- ities a dance band has been organized, At present it hasn't made any public appearances, but it has several engagements coming up in the near future. The band again played at the Blackhawk Band Festival in Wethersfield, which was considered its usual success. Our spring concert this year was Friday, April 13. We all feel that we put on an extremely fine concert this year in spite of the date. Much of our success this year has hinged on the very fine support of the Band Boosters. We of the band would sincerely like to thank them for all the many boosts they have extended along the way. Just recently this organization sponsored a Cake-Walk, the proceeds of which were given to the band to spend as we saw fit. Our hats are off to Mr. Leonard Smith, who through all has guided us, directed us, and worked us into a smooth and capable group of musicians. All twenty-six of us seniors hate to leave, and we say thank you, Mr. Smith. This page made possible by JOHNSON AND GILL CHAPEL BAND OFFICERS S. Ne1S0r1 . . . . Majorette M. Nelson . . . . . . Composing a 12 and 2 conference record and 24 and 4 record for the season, this year's Wildcats truly have had a year to remember. While our 21 game winning streak was going strong, we had as many fans coming to see our out-of-town games as our opponents had. It is very fitting that such a successful season should come to this Fine group of boys. It is just as fitting that this group should fall into the competent hands of Coach Bob Grove. Mr, Grove has done much in leading the boys through this fine season, and we feel that he deserves the hearty congratulations of both the team and the fans. ln this year's Regional Tournament held at Galesburg, Galva swept past Corpus Christi and Knoxville to advance to the finals, but went down to defeat at the hands of the state's third rated team, Galesburg. we feel that this was no great defeat and that this year's team was truly a great one. STANDING: Coach Barclay, R, Jones, L. Appell, S. Lapan, R. Dexter, L. Lindberg, Coach Grove. KNEELING: J. Cromien, P. Loveall, L. Theesfeld, Wayne Peterson, Warren Peterson, F. Lord L, Hultgren. .. .. QUAD This year's Wildkittens showed that they had the ability to fight hard and come out on top. They have followed the example set by the B squad two years ago by winning the conference once again. Out of the three years we have had a B squad conference, Galva has emerged victorious twice, That unbeatable determination that makes every team suc- cessful was shown throughout the entire season. The Galva fans can look forward to many fine seasons in the future if Coach Barclay continues to instruct his boys in the art of basketball in the way he did this year. In the B squad tournament at Princeville our Wi1dkittens didn't play their usual brand of ball. They were able tobeat Wyoming: but when they came up against Princeville and Toulon, they just didn't have it. All in all, however, the team did a good job of repre- senting the school and came home with a 4th plaoe trophy. This page made possible by H. S. We arrived at about 3:00 and registered for our cabins. Everyone was given a free speedboat ride and a cruise. There were planned trips we could go on if we wanted. Every night we could go to the Barefoot Club, and then there was a wiener roast at about 11:00 every night which everyone attended. When it was time to go home, everyone hated to leave, On our way home everyone slept because they were so tired from all the activities. When we arrived home about 5:00 wednesday nigit, we were all tired and broke. M v , ' . V 1 Nftq 'Jw 5 ,, A ? ..,-N A fy,- A ., V'-M -. ,, 5 4 i X I'-1.
