To The Class of 1950: On behalf of the faculty and my- self l wish to congratulate you on your graduation from Galt High School. To tell you that all of your toil and probelms are over would be sheer folly. Commencement means to Commence , After graduation you will commence to go to an ad- vanced school, or go to work for yourselves or others. MR. With the tools in your possession the kind of iob you do is your responsibility. No one will be able to do your work for you, either in an advanced school, or in a commercial position, or 'on a farm. In other words, you can win in the game of life only if you have the will to win. Your determination to finsh the task at hand during the past four years, namely, graduation from high school, indicates you have the will to win and it is my sincerest wish that all of you will be successful in whatever you attempt. Then as teardrops, torn from stark and naked grief, It streams down little gullies on the cold and barren slopes. This is the beginning of the Truckee River ...... J. . A beginning, not a divinity, that shapes its end. Rushing and roaring it goes, sighing and crying it flows From the crest of the High Sierras, That is the Truckee River, winding down the canyons, Whispering through the pines, pole vaulting the boulders, Wild as a women scorned, placid as a millpond after a shower. Two thousand feet it falls as the road wheels down the mountain, That river wends its way to keep its rendezvous with life.
