Then as teardrops, torn from stark and naked grief, It streams down little gullies on the cold and barren slopes. This is the beginning of the Truckee River ...... J. . A beginning, not a divinity, that shapes its end. Rushing and roaring it goes, sighing and crying it flows From the crest of the High Sierras, That is the Truckee River, winding down the canyons, Whispering through the pines, pole vaulting the boulders, Wild as a women scorned, placid as a millpond after a shower. Two thousand feet it falls as the road wheels down the mountain, That river wends its way to keep its rendezvous with life.
