Then as teardrops, torn from stark and naked grief, It streams down little gullies on the cold and barren slopes. This is the beginning of the Truckee River ...... J. . A beginning, not a divinity, that shapes its end. Rushing and roaring it goes, sighing and crying it flows From the crest of the High Sierras, That is the Truckee River, winding down the canyons, Whispering through the pines, pole vaulting the boulders, Wild as a women scorned, placid as a millpond after a shower. Two thousand feet it falls as the road wheels down the mountain, That river wends its way to keep its rendezvous with life. BOARD OF TRUSTEES Left to right: Egbert Morse, james Frantson, Christopher Adams, Robert Nichols, Dr. Donald Ireland. To The Class of 1950: On behalf of the faculty and my- self l wish to congratulate you on your graduation from Galt High School. To tell you that all of your toil and probelms are over would be sheer folly. Commencement means to Commence , After graduation you will commence to go to an ad- vanced school, or go to work for yourselves or others. MR. TAYLQR The Galt High School has attemp- Dismct Superintendent ted to give you the essential tools of Galt joint Union High Schggl learning to do either one. With the tools in your possession the kind of iob you do is your responsibility. No one will be able to do your work for you, either in an advanced school, or in a commercial position, or 'on a farm. In other words, you can win in the game of life only if you have the will to win. Your determination to finsh the task at hand during the past four years, namely, graduation from high school, indicates you have the will to win and it is my sincerest wish that all of you will be successful in whatever you attempt. During this period some titty veterans have been in training. The training program is designed to provide instruction and exper- ience so as to equip the veteran with the necessary ability to solve his indi- vidual farm problems. Trainees either operate a farm of their own or are placed on a good farm in the area so as to receive added instruction and assistance from the farm operator. Instruction includes dairy management, livestock management, general farm management as well as improved crop production practices and farm mechanic's work. Welding, farm equipment repair and upkeep, are made an integral part of the training program. Extensive use is made of qualified experts as speakers in various fields. As the program progresses the obiective is to produce a better farmer as well as a better farm, operated by the trainee. f WO TT MR. COO MR. The Class of 1950 is not the exception. We have accomplished many worthwhile things in these four years. We numbered 96, when as Freshmen we began high school in Septem- ber, 1946. There are 48 of us now. We regret that one half our members is not among us. On that first day, as Freshmen, we accepted the customary initiation stripes. Gradually we began to feel that Galt High School was our school too. Our Barn Dance Queen Candidate won the honor that year. Our Sophomore year not eventful save for a skating party at Sacra- mento. As Juniors our Prom honoring the Seniors carried the theme of Orchids in the Moonlight . The Gymnasium was turned into a night scene roofed with twinkling stars above a floor garden scene. The setting for the Orchestra was a picture frame of orchids and greenery. In a basketball game with the seniors we were winners. When September of '49 came up we felt that this would be a long year. But we have been busy, November 18th was unusually eventful. We selected and ordered our announcements, and cards. At noon the Senior Class Turkey Raffle, our Sponsor and friend, Mrs. Lane won the turkey. But the evening was most important. Class spirit came to the fore, when Harriet Jackson, Senior Queen Candidate at the F. F. A. Barn Dance was crowned. Her escort, Reinhold Pahl, proudly accompanied her in leading the grand march. Her gifts were a box of candy and a corsage. Throughout the Senior year there are many thrilling things we do. Not least among them being photographed for the annual Senior pages. lt's one more step toward the goal. Senior Freak Day developed much latent talent. lngenious planning made it a day provoking many a hearty laugh. Next to really graduating, was Sneak Day. Memory will hold dear to our hearts secrets of that day. Baccalaureate Day, with the girls in tailored dress and boys in new suits, made us really feel like women and men.. On June ninth we were happy indeed to accept our diplomas culmin- ating twelve years of study. Some of us have been together in school all these years, others have become newer friends. For all good bye to Galt Joint Union High School Classmates. Compliments of I I ICECREAMCO.
