PRINCIPAL iiitfiififgaiaiit To The Seniors of the Class of 1949: Your graduation from High School comes one hundred years after the dis- covery of Gold in California and the subsequent rush of prospectors and settlers. During the intervening century, California has grown from a sparsely populated territory to the second most populous state in the union. Today there are no known bonanzas of gold .but other wealth and oppor- tunities abound as large as they did one hundred years ago. Predictions are that California will achieve a population of 14,000,000 by 1960. Those people who are fortunate enough to be well trained and of suitable talents and character, should be able to achieve high places of esteem and financial- lucrativeness in this great future development. The class of '49 need not drift to other states or continents seeking opportunity. The opportunities will be here in California. The problem will be to have the fore- sight to recognize them and to be prepared to accept them when the opportunities arise. Your graduation from High School indicates one step in your preparation for the opportunities which lie ahead. Now you must use your initiative, training, and insight to make yourself ready to accept responsibility and leadership when your chance to move ahead with the state of California comes. FLOYD E. TAYLOR X A15
