XX FIRST SUUAUHU T Playing a sixegame schedule, the Galt High School warriors did not win a game but performed remark- ably well for their size and numbers. The first game was played against a larger and well-trained Sutter Creek squad. Statistics showed the teams to be evenly matched. Two costly fumbles resulted in a 12-U victory for the Mother Lode squad. While outplaying a St. Marys squad from Stockton the warriors were held to a scoreless tie. Aspass batted around in the end zone in the last two minutes of play gave Calaveras a 6-O victory over a t. In the traditional game against Courtland, Galt played their best game of the season, yet lacked the size and reserves to win. Statistics again favored Galt, but the final score was 7-6 in favor of Courtland. San luan defeated Galt by a 6-0 count in a night game at Isleton. This game was finally ruled no contest because of San Iuan's refusal to abide by conference rules, and the score reverted to the score before the game, U-U. The last game was lost to Elk Grove, winners of the sub-league championship. Galt played a fine game but could not withstand a goal line drive by Elk Grove in the final quarter. A touchdown scored by Galt was not allowed because of a penalty, the final score was 7-0. ln spite of the loss of these games, this squad made a remarkable showing. The heaviest man on the team weighed approximately 158 pounds, the lightest member about 120, The team weight was about 135 poundsemuch lighter than the other varsity teams in the league. Of the thirteen men on the squad, six were of B classification. As no playing field was available, every game was played away from home. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SEASON The fighting spirit in the Sutter Creek game. Outstanding men were Goehring, Angele, Mori, and Miller. Erich's SU-yard runs against St. Marys and Elk Grove that almost brought victories, lvfori's and Biaggi's fine playing against Calaveras. The good showing of the squad as a whole in the Courtland game and some outstanding playing by Mingo, Ladd, Chew, and Griffith. The development of Mingo as a runner and passer, and the quarterbacking of Donald Ladd. The fine playing of six midget players, Chew, Boyd, Ramsey, Willyard, Ladd, and Price, against a heavy San Iuan squad. The iron men role of Angele, Miller, Willyard, Ramsey. Griffith, Erich, and Mori. These men played through practif cally every game without any substitutes. Pound for pound this squad could have licked their weight in wildcats. RESERVES The 1941 football season for the Galt B's was cut short by the lack of reserves on the varsity, but was a success in that we lost only one game. ' Our first opponent was the Thundering Herd from Sutter Creek. The Warrior Babes emerged from this bruising affair with a two touchdown victory. At San Andreas the locals won over a big team by a score of 14-6. In this game we were minus the services of Yagi, Ladd, and Ouarton, who were all injured. r Iackson gave us a bad time until the last quarter, when we rolled off 58 yards in four successive first downs. The final gun found the Papooses on Iackson's 2-yard lineg the best we could get out of the en- counter was a scoreless tie. In our last game we stepped out of our class and took on the big and strong McClatchy High School B team. We were swamped by superior speed and manpowerg when it was all over our opponents had us by four touchdowns. In the'l94l campaign many boys established themselves as definite varsity material for the years to come Unless the athletic program is changed because of war conditions these boys should contribute greatly to the victory banner at Galt High School OUTSTANDING MEN FOR THE SEASON Iim Price and Troy Brooks proved to be a tough pair of wingmen on sweeps by the opposition Khag Palmer and Chapman would look well in any line lots of weight and desire to mix it Geiger and Mays as guards put in a lot of time as fifth men in the opponents backfields Gaub was our best pass defender A Quarton and Ladd provided speed for our attacks Yagi could provide the necessary punch at fullback COACH VUKOVICH McCormick was a triple threat man and handled the blocking assignments well also As freshmen B Beiderman B Quarton H Abraham and N Aldrich learned fast and show a great deal of prom ise As a team they showed a fine cooperative spirit and could hold their own against any team of their size be cause they had the will and courage to win vs N It go .2 PG it 'Sf' MA Top row left to right Coach Vukovich Bueford Quarton Earl Geiger lim Sullivan Peter Khag Iames Price Iunior Abra ham Norman Al rich Don McCormick Arnold Quarton Maurice Palmer Bottom row Troy Brooks Henry Biederman Exkck Mahoney ugene Lavagnino Dale Mays Dwain Stoops Alvin Gaub Ray Biederman Harry Thrasher and Charles apman 11 Efjiiifvfi F YC' fn. .ji-fr ,4- 4 g Y-..
