Yes 1t was our first experience at elect1ng class offrcers We felt pretty important too After all we were Freshmen and the oldest class at the IUHIOI Hlgh Sheff was rather proud of us when the Prom was such a successll That year some of the class members took their frrst stab at Iournahsm The Mirror was published with Arlene Craner and Shlrley Kirtland as co edltors It was mdeed a busy year' Sophornores-everything was dlfierent at the Sen 1or High the burldrng the teachers the classes and that crazy old skeleton hanging up rn the biology room Never a more bewildered lot entered G H S ' M1ss Smith was our sponsor so the class officers met in the Home Ec room to dlscuss plans for the Hop whlch materialized in the form of a barn dance Peggy Smith guided us through that year asslsted by Chuck Ness Paul Fm 1cal Jotted down notes at the class meetlngs and Ioe lack took care of our money We really got the hang of things during our Iunror year what with joining Our largest task was banqueting the senlors at the Iun1orSen1or Receptlon at the Country Club The party went off w1th a bang' But how could we lose with Miss Tracht as sponsor and Doc Griebhng Chuck Ness Peg Smith and Elaine Boop as officers? And then-our senior year 'lhe doors opened last September and automat rcally we became the btg shots around G H S We dldnt feel so b1g and besldes we were too busy electing Wisler Plum mer Garverick and Shumaker to office publ1sh1ng the Spy staging Dou ble Exposure indulging in sports and taking the lead 1n club activities to get the swell head Our sponsor Mr Swick aided us in holding the Sen1or Hop It was a gala affair held ln February so some of our senior boys who would be leaving school soon to enter the service could be present About the middle of March we were measured for our caps and gowns A llttle wave of tear ran through all of us although no one would admit it Yes we were going to graduate, taking with us only the memories of the most carefree period of our l1ves clubs, publishing the Lantern and producing Happy Landings .
