DEDIEATIU In this year, the third year of war, it is only fitting and proper to dedicate our yearbook The Telescope to all those fighting for freedom, actively or passively. First, to all those valiant Allies of the United States-England, Russia and China, and to all those of the underground in Occupied Countries. To the men in uniform who make up these countries and will right to the death to defend them for freedom's sake. To those who have gone to work in essential industries, who are helping to bring back sooner those in uniform. To the teachers, for helping to provide the students of Galileo with a better knowledge with which to equip themselves. And hnally, to the students who have stayed in school to secure an education, particularly the boys who, through their teachers, are gaining the knowledge which is to help them later in their branch of the Armed Services and to prepare themselves with skilled and essential jobs for a post-war world. We the editors, feel sure that this year, more than ever, the physical education and R.O.T.C. departments should be given special mention and congratulations on helping students to build fine healthy bodies and to develop a fair sense of play.

In bringing this edition of the Telescope to you, the Student Body of Galileo, the staff encountered many difficulties, because of war shortages and conditions. The members of the staff wish to take this opportunity to thank their adviser, Mrs. Marjorie Cullen, for her valuable help which was needed to make this book of memories a success. But now, meet the staff. Cecelia Zacharin and Madge McWilliams, both activity-worn seniors, served as co-editors and lived lives of desperation until deadline time. Beverly Burns held the important position of senior-editor. Delio Domeniconi, well known Student Body treasurer, was in charge of the sports section. joe Tarantino, chairman of the Senior Prom, and more important the Telescope's circulation manager, made efficiency his motto. Super salesman Will Renke handled Telescope advertising and engineered a red-letter day-the senior picnic in marvelous Marin. Gentlemen of the press Joe Casalnuovo, R.O.T.C. editor, and Dick Firebaugh helped with the sports section. Camelia Nunez and 'lean Sawtell handled the registries and organizations, respectively. And now, the Telescope.
