Mem Z, ' e escape HIS Spring 1938 issue of the Telescope marks the 33rd ' time that the editors have worked hard to put out a year- book that will primarily serve the students as a reminder of the classmates and events that were so vital to them in their school days. The editors this term have tried to make up a book that would contain well-written copy, clear pictures, and outstanding art work, and if the Telescope meets with the approval of the students--the critics-they will feel that their hard work has really served a worth-while purpose. Peggy Sussman and Mildred Gerini, co-editors of the Tele- scope, have had a hard-working, capable and an enthusiastic group of editors under them. Jean Nowell, graduate editor, proved herself to be very capable, as did Organizations Editor Laurette Batsere, Circulation Manager Jean Rodegerdts, Boys' Sports Editor Alex De Conde, and Girls' Sports Editor Jose- phine Camp. The very important commercial end of the Telescope had as its main director capable Doris Gavin, who was auditor of publications. Although the Telescope has never succeeded in having its balance books Written in black, Lionel Alanson as business manager and Billy Levy as adver- tising manager have done their part in securing many advertisements which allow this yearbook to be published. Besides the newswriting students, the publication of the yearbook depends on many other persons. Mrs. Marjorie Cullen, news advisor, was helpful in ways too numerous to mention. Mrs. Gertrue Edwards, art advisor, did her share in making the art work of the Telescope outstanding. Of Mr. Joseph T. Reilly of the Golden Gate Engraving Com- pany can be said that he did his usual high standard of work. The successful printing and publishing of the Telescope can accredited to Mr. Malcolm Reeves of the Reeves Publishing Company. Credit for the excellent individual pictures in the Telescope should be given to Kee Coleman Studios, while the many fine group pictures and candids were taken by Dick Cushing, D'34. v

Qendulam AN FRANCISCO has produced many famous newspaper men and women, such as Kathleen Norris, Carolyn Wells, Prank Norris, the two lrwins, Mark Twain, James King of William, and Samuel Brannan. Today, students interested in the field of journalism are given the opportunity of work- ing on newspapers in their own schools. This semester at Galileo found an industrious group of potential journalists working so as to give the student body live interesting issues of the Pendulum. Under the excellent leadership of Barbara Heilbron, editor-in-chief, and with the assistance of Beatrice Birsinger, director of publications, the Pendulum staff extended these five editions, which published the news incidental to student government, athletics, scholar- ship, social events, dramatics, debating and humor. Having its orthodox make-up changed for an issue, the Pendulum became the Pandemonium on April Fool's Day. Feature stories and jokes were prominent, and the heads and sport page were turned up-side-down. The students joined into the spirit of the day, and immensely enjoyed the April lst edition. Notable recognition is due to the Pendulum staff for their invaluable support and cooperation. As managing editor, Bob Kelly fulfilled his position gratifyingly, as did Jean Nowell as editorial director. Gerda Miller succeeded in her job as circulation manager. Under the direction of Joe Villa- lon, sports director, Baldo Pellegrini always gave the athletic- minded an absorbing sports page. Girls' sports were capably handled by June Crawford. Doris Kent and Edith Mac- Donald, advertising manager and business manager, respec- tively, did splendid work keeping accurate account of the Pendulum's finances. The following students are to be congratulated upon their creditable writing of their respective columns: Marilynn Reichardt, Chatterbox : Jean Matthias, Organizations: David Thomas, Alumnig Joe Villalon, Press Box: Al Wheeler, Bibliomaniac Speaks g and Barbara Nlelnikow, Exchanges.
