Each hen was unique and carried with it a small piece of grain that he hoped someday would become for them a pros- perous piece of wheat. The first year for the freshmen hens is a very diffi- cult one. It is filled not only with the confusion of finding classes, and getting lockers open, but with the delight of going out for sports, and high school dances. The young hens learn a great deal but also find that many adjustments need to be made. New friends help them through these changes. Their grain has been planted. The second year, the sophomore hens have become accustomed to their rigorous schedule. They go about the task of watering and strengthening their grains of wheat with the knowledge from Geome- try, Drivers Education, and extra curricular activi- ties as well. Proudly they display their new class rings, knowing that one day their wheat, like many others, will be ready for harvest. The third year is one of excitement and fun, for much has been learned and accomplished and the hens put this knowledge to use. With all their tal- ents, they plan a successful prom and take off on a 28 mile bike trip. Athletes are now proudly playing on the varsity squads. Soon their tasks will be com- plete, for their wheat is growing rapidly, and nearly ready for harvesting. And finally, the last and final year. Heartache and joy fill this last year, but most of all there is a great sense of accomplishment. It is evident that their wheat is ready to harvest with everything behind them, including such classes as Reading and Writ- ing for College, Chemistry, Speech, and Physics. And those long nights of work for Prom, Home- coming and Class night, being heroes on the athle- tic field and many more great memories. As they harvest their wheat they each start down separate paths to make their wheat into what will become a way of life. 1. However, even though this chapter is finished it doesn't mean that from time to time we can't open up part of our book and refer back, time and again to what has been written. For some of us our stories may be romantic or painful to look back on and for others they may be filled with joy and fond- ness of the memories they've left behind. But we all must remember, whether good or bad, from each and every story written in our book we have learned a lesson. It is important to use our experiences to our advantage as we build our futures. Jim Hill, Salutatorian; Vickie Kriesel, Valedictorian In August, the class of 1984 gathered for their final year in high school. They played their last games; went to their last Prom and Homecoming; and adjusted to the fact that high school life would soon be over. In January the class took a ski trip to Coffee Mill. By this time also decisions were being made about our futures as each of us gladly used our three college-visit days, to get out of our college prep courses, reading and writing for college, chemistry, physics. Math 4, and many more. As the year wound down a com- mon question was Do You Know Where Youre Going To?' as it was stated in our class song, Theme from Mahogony . The girls wore gray robes with the guys in maroon. The class flower was a pink rose. The class was led by the officers: Anita Walski President, Vickie Kriesel: Vice president. David Wessel, his wife Susan, Jessica age 9, and Bethany Anne age 7. arrived in Galesville in August 1983 Mr Wessel feels that the G-E-T school system is big enough to offer a variety of choices, but small enough for students to be treated as individuals — not lost in the shuffle. The staff, he says, is excellent — the best I've ever worked with. He thinks this is a beautiful part of Wisconsin and looks forward to relaxing with his family, playing some golf, and hopefully unpacking this summer. Mr Wessel's Impressions of his First Year at G-E-T The students have been very accepting. I was surprised at how polite and friendly the students have been The students are basically pretty good Not perfect and not every- one is good all the time, but these are good kids. The teachers are also easy to work with. They re experienced, knowledgable and competent. I firmly believe students have access to an excellent education here. School should be a pleasant, positive place where people should feel good about themselves and what goes on here. I like to think we are that kind of a place and we will continue in that direction. It's nice to see a large number of extra curricular options for students — athletics, clubs, music, drama, etc. High school should be a participation place. Working with people is the part of my job I enjoy the most. It also can be the most challenging, but time never moves slowly for me! Success breeds more success. Finding the area a student can be successful at is important A big responsibility of any school, especially high school, is to teach responsibility. This is a fun place to be I enjoy my work here and look forward to continuing to be the principal of G-E-T. 42 DRUG Amiss eOMMKZSS 1. Principal David Wessel 2. Mr. Forster testifys in the trial of the Vikings vs. the Redmen. The cheerleaders were very busy with the weeks events. Monday brought many students to school with great selections of hats, buttons, pins, and ties. Tues- day the school, and lockers, were decorated red, white and blue. Many of us rose early on Wednesday to create our most unusual hairdo. Of course by Thurs- day we began to feel sorry for the Holmen Vikings inevitable loss, and came clad in black. That night the annual bonfire was held, followed by the Sock Hop. The theme was Don't Cry . Our spirits were high by Friday and it showed as everyone wore our great school colors. Downtown we held the parade along with other activities, during a heavy rainshower. The football players didn't disappoint us with a 10 to 0 win over Holmen. Freelance played at our dance on Satur- day, October 8, where King Mike Mack, and Queen Tricia Smith were crowned. ms go zo szjzs Row I: Peggy Smith, Mary Mack, Corinne Kiedrowski, Lori Schmidt, Joleen Rand. The Ecology club will be in charge of the restoration of the prairie grasses. Over the next year they hope to have more natural prairie grasses growing in our school forest. This project is intended to take place through this summer, and should be done sometime next year. An- other annual project for the ecology Club is the Sand- hill Crane count. At 4:30 A.M. on April 14, tired stu- dents headed for the great outdoors, despite the light rain. Their task was to listen and look for the Sandhill Crane. Tenetive plans for an overnight trip to Coffee Mill heightened everyones spirits. The first night the ski lift had to be shut down due to lightening. It seemed water skis would have been more appropriate due to the warm weather and rain.. Only a few mi- nor injuries (Alan Urban's thumb, and Brook's wrist) besides many sore mus- cles plagued skiers. Mark Towner es- caped injury (although his pole didn't) when Ralph Zabrowski decided to turn pro jumper and jumped over Mark, mak- ing him roll over the embankment. Get- ting on and off the ski lift proved to be the most difficult for some. Even Molly was hit by the waves of Michael-mania. Michael Jack- son gave us the music, but Richard Geere gave us the moves. Our favorite pivot came from “An Officer and a Gentleman . Even the 1984 Olympics touched our performances. We used formations from the opening ceremonies at Sarajevo. These people and events had an effect on the squad in general, but what about those people who directly effected our squad? Holly, what enticed those laughing spells? What made Geri and Ilka wear those hats? How did Mrs. Lettner get all those ice cream donations? Why couldn't Chris get those moves? Where was Kris on Friday night? The scoreboard shows a victory. Redmem 48 • Mel-Min 18 5. Dave Scherr comes out on top. Six freshmen finished out the varsity squad forming a young inexperienced team. The season went well though, and they began their building for three years down the road. The team was led by Seniors Tracy Halverson, Mike Guillou and Junior Dave Scherr. Dave had a terrific year wrestling at 145 lbs. His record 23 of 26 matches, speaks for itself. Dave proceeded to sectionals but unfortunately lost in the first round 4-2. The team knew they could do it and practiced long hard but they also took some time out for fun. MJjCS REXAM. 3RD SZAZE Season Record 128-21 Vars.
