TAKE-OFF During the 1982-83 school year, the GET Redmen really took off on loads of things - such as the abun- dance of student teachers, the first German class over the cable system (Monica and Mark), our Swedish foreign exchange student (Susanne Slattman). and the day someone stole” the morning announce- ments (Will whoever took the announcements please return them to the office?”) Our community also took off on the opening of the new Hunter’s Bridge, and the Brewers and the Packers really took off too even after the football strike. The entire Coulee Conference found out how well the Redmen could takeoff by winning the Coulee Conference championships in football, boys' basket- ball. and volleyball. The Tylenol poisonings really caught everyone off guard, but as much as that brought us down, the Valley Girls helped us get over it in a totally differ- ent” way. The movies the Redmen took-off to see in '82-83 C. T.. Annie. Tootsie, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (midnight movie in LaCrosse). The classes the Seniors took off to were pretty hectic, too — Mrs. MacNelson and her Macbeth (McBeth. MacBeth. Mcbeth) quizzes: Mr. Gautsch. Math IV and the hosehead computers (Where's the Joe” Tax-Man disk?): and Miss Werner and the egg babies (Oops. I dropped ill). While the underclassmen took-off on toothpick bridges, cardboard cars. Junior bicycle trip and video games. The new year 1983 seemed to sneak up on us when we weren't looking and gobbled us up as the Redmen do to their opponents and Pac-man does to ghosts. Just as 1983 was the year that made the REDMEN TAKE OFF. it was also the year for the seniors to TAKE OFF into their futures. Kathy Thompson 3
