It's the Last of the Seventies. We have moved from Beatlemania in the 60's, to Kiss Army, to the disco fever of today. In ten years dancing has gone from couples dancing close, to no one dancing at all, to dancing, to disco. Discotheques cover-and some say plague-the countryside with flashing lights and loud music. In fashion, hemlines dropped from revealing miniskirts to modest below- the-knee dresses. In sports we witnessed perfection in the gymnastics of Nadia Com- maneci while America's own Bruce Jenner set a world's record in the decathalon. The country has taken to the streets walking, jogging and running. As a nation we experienced first-hand a Presidential resignation, Vietnam, a declin- ing birth rate, advanced space exploration and the first test-tube baby. An American Nazi Party grows and the Ku Klux Klan claims increased numbers. Blacks seem to have been liberated, and women rally for support of the ERA. Hopefully, in the next decade we shall see the outcome of scientific, industrial and in- tellectual break throughs. Star Wars may be just imagination today; tomorrow it may be reality. Many questions have faced the people of the Seventies: Are you a slave to your tele- vision set? What'sjrour astrological sign? How should the U.b. respond to the interna- tional arms race? Is God dead? Is marriage going to the dogs? What are you doing about the energy crisis? Do you know your ances- tral roots ? Are we a threat to ourselves? All has changed from past generations, and yet the world has remained basically the same. Roles in schools and home are un- changed: only the characters are different. Year follows year, thrusting us headlong into our own future. The changes of the Seventies have been but a small part of a chain that we will fully realize in years ahead.
