ARROWHEAD Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School Galesville, Wisconsin Editor: Keith Hilton Advisor: Mrs. Hanson It's the Last of the Seventies. We have moved from Beatlemania in the 60's, to Kiss Army, to the disco fever of today. In ten years dancing has gone from couples dancing close, to no one dancing at all, to dancing, to disco. Discotheques cover-and some say plague-the countryside with flashing lights and loud music. In fashion, hemlines dropped from revealing miniskirts to modest below- the-knee dresses. In sports we witnessed perfection in the gymnastics of Nadia Com- maneci while America's own Bruce Jenner set a world's record in the decathalon. The country has taken to the streets walking, jogging and running. As a nation we experienced first-hand a Presidential resignation, Vietnam, a declin- ing birth rate, advanced space exploration and the first test-tube baby. An American Nazi Party grows and the Ku Klux Klan claims increased numbers. Blacks seem to have been liberated, and women rally for support of the ERA. Hopefully, in the next decade we shall see the outcome of scientific, industrial and in- tellectual break throughs. Star Wars may be just imagination today; tomorrow it may be reality. Many questions have faced the people of the Seventies: Are you a slave to your tele- vision set? What'sjrour astrological sign? How should the U.b. respond to the interna- tional arms race? Is God dead? Is marriage going to the dogs? What are you doing about the energy crisis? Do you know your ances- tral roots ? Are we a threat to ourselves? All has changed from past generations, and yet the world has remained basically the same. Roles in schools and home are un- changed: only the characters are different. Year follows year, thrusting us headlong into our own future. The changes of the Seventies have been but a small part of a chain that we will fully realize in years ahead. When we are years from here, we will have only the memories that we live out now-now in the Last of the Seventies. We praise you. Despite interruptions of all kinds, you have completed your various duties in keeping the machinery of the school running. Mr. Howard, our district administrator, said it best- Mv secretaries cannot quit until after I do. y Giving you flowers or taking you out to lunch during National Secretary Week says thank you once a year, but we, the student body, are grateful to you all year long for the hard work, the patience, and the loyalty you have shared with us. Johnson WHAT TO DO BESIDES CRY WHEN NO ONE UNDERSTANDS by Judy Walski If no one understands you, you may find that little understanding is necessary on your part. Suppose you just made a statement that no one understood. What would you do? When I am in this situation I consider the ossibility that what I said may not have een stated in a comprehensible manner. I analyze my remark and, if necessary, rephrase my statement, making my point clearer and more readily understandable. Embarrassing moments can be avoided by being more precise. At other times you may find that someone dosn't understand your attitude, opinion, or personality. In this sort of situation, I find that you must remember that everyone is different. As an individual you have the right to be unlike others. You must realize that if everyone felt and acted the same as 78 C. Kahabka K. Kenlmer S. Knappen D. Knepper R. Knepper L. Kopp M. Kopp T. When I am criticized for expressing my individuality I accept the fact that I am different, knowing that my individual ideas are as pertinent as those of anyone else. Ultimately, I think you'll find that you must be yourself in order to be truly satis- fied. You must act naturally, even if that means not taking part in what all your bud- dies are up to on Saturday night when you personally don't find what they are doing very interesting. When you feel yourself not understood, maybe my suggestions will help. If my ad- vice does not work, your last resort might be to sit down and have yourself a gooa cry. Tney should come out and tell you how I feel. They should sing with me in joy and pain for my hidden feel- ings are the only things that Keep me from loving you. It would be really so great if I could tell you all my heart's troubles, but I know that they would again be covered up. I can tell other people far away things. I can tell you of lost times, but I cannot tell you how it felt inside when you said HI! So if I do you pain by keeping this part of me from you PLEASE don't mind, because sometime in our life you will know what it was like. I assure you.
