GALE-ETTRICK-TREMPEALEAU HIGH SCHOOL GALESVILLE, WISCONSIN EDITOR: BARB GUSE ASSISTANT EDITOR: TERRY SMITH ADVISOR: MRS. G. HANSON IMAGES C Pretend that you are a newcomer to G.E.T. and you're strolling through the school for the first time. What impression do you get as you walk down the halls and past classrooms? What are the images of G.E.T.? Your senses are awakened as you pass the classrooms. In Mrs. Nelson’s room there is only the scratching of pencils; in Room 6 somebody just cracked a joke and everyone is laughing (except Mr. Myers). Students are hard at work in the library, and down the hall you smell fresh bread, varnish, and silk-screen ink — everyone's busy there. At the end of the hall typewrit- ers clack in Room 19 and bombs exploding in Room 30, where Mr. Christianson is showing war movies. If you are here after school, you will probably meet some athletes — male and female. In all sports, the Redmen have what it takes! What is the athletic image of G.E.T.? It is one of hard work, confi- dence and the drive to win. Maybe you saw a group of girls going to office practice, perhaps you saw some seniors talking to Mr. Lund about their fu- ture. G.E.T. has a career image of con- cern-of looking and planning ahead. As you go down the hall, take notice of the big posters on the walls, courtesy of the Pep Club. If it is Homecoming Week, you'll see class posters and everyone will be wearing bibs and socks, Star Wars outfits. If you came for the parade, sorry — it's raining! — but come on in for the pep rally and see the whole school stand up to cheer for the mighty Redmen! You'll see who fires up G.E.T. fans. The social image of G.E.T.? It is one of fun, of friends, and of having a good time to break up the routine of school. Then, long after the buses depart, look outside. If you see V's yellow Cherokee and Mr. Z's Jeep, leaving and Mr. Fitz- patrick and Mr. Howard walking home, you know that it's the end of another day at G.E.T. Beth Hill 2 3 OUR ACADEMIC OUR. Not pictured: Bob Wolfe Above: Queen: Lisa Anderson; King: Tim Hovel I AND WE LIVE FOR TOMORROW Above: Doing What Comes Naturally! Above: The Three Stooges TO LIVE IN On February 1, 1978, we were stricken by the sudden death of Bonnie Jostad. All or us who knew Bonnie felt disbelief and then a deep grief at our loss; for a while, sorrow overcame us. But soon we found in our hearts the blessings of memory. We re- member Bonnie smiling at her locker; sweeping halls after school; springing practical jokes on her friends; her involve- ment in 4-H; Library Club, F.H.A., V.S.Y., Volleyball, Track, N.H.S., Yearbook Staff, and G.A.A., Curling and playing ping pong; being in homeroom, and sharing many, many happy memories with all of her friends. These memories are precious because we are reminded of Bonnie's spirit. The joy and contentment she found in life, her straightforwardness, her sense of humor and her friendly ways made Bonnie a spe- cial person who is missed by many. But when we feel the pain and loneliness of being without Bonnie, let us remember the gifts that she brought us in life and in death. We received from Bonnie several years of happiness and many shared moments. She let us see, through her death, the value of each moment that we have on earth and the joy of being alive. She taught us to appreciate those we love and to show them how much we care. Her dying brought many of us closer to- gether as we opened our hearts to each other in our grief. We learned the goodness of the human heart as people all around us comforted us and eased our pain. And the biggest blessing of all is the love that Bonnie brought to us, her friends — the everlasting love of friendship which has multiplied many times since her death as we reach out to touch others as Bonnie touched us. We can build no better memorial than this love. To create many close friendships as Bonnie did with the same kind of simplic- ity, honesty, and caring that she showed us is the best remembrance anyone can give. In this way, the spirit of Bonnie will carry on forever.
