Qale-Sttrick High School Qalesville, Wisconsin Editor • Vernon Jacobs Advisor: Mrs. Q. .Hanson Zhe Spirit Of Qale-Sttrick High School Prevails ... What is the spirit of Gale-Ettrick High School? Is it the way in which we daily strive for better grades? Is it the rah-rah type of thing when our team is fighting for victory'? Or is the quiet way in which the teachers humbly go from day to day try- ing to lead us to our future goals? These things put together create the spirit of Gale-Ettrick High School, something really unde- finable, but yet it is the mainstay of our educa- tional traditions. Secondly, he needs to be knowledgeable in several areas: budget- ing and financing, personnel management, the planning and maintaining of school buildings, and the arts of communication. Certainly, Mr. Robert Howard is just such a specialized jack-of-all-trades plus more. In his ten years here, the last seven as superintendent, he has studied closely the educa- tional needs of our district. He has evaluated new developments in education by utilizing conferences, convention, education courses, and wide reading. He has guided creative and beneficial changes in Gale-Ettrick school life. This sincere interest in the role of education in all its aspects is encouraging and inspiring to students, teachers and parents of the Gale-Ettrick School District. With these words of tribute, the 1968 Arrowhead is dedicated to you, Mr. Robert Howard. 8 Seniors Seniors DIANE ALVAREZ SARAH ANDERSEN ROGER BARENTHIN PATRICIA BEIRNE DAVID BRANDTNER NANCY CANTLON '68 MIKE ANDERSON GORDON ANDERSON SARA BAHNUB SONIA BERG JERRY BETTESWORTH LINDA BISHOP Spirit of Learning Seniors DOUGLAS CHRISTIANSON WILLIAM DOCKEN ROBERT ENCHACEN Friends through Sports ELIZABETH ERICKSON BARBARA ERICKSON 12 SUSAN DUNNE JAMES EKERN KENNETH COOK SHIRLEY DE YOUNG CATHERINE FRAUST GARY FRAUST Seniors RANDALL GARTNER KAREN GESKE LINDA HOVRE KENNETH HOWE DAVID KASTE JOSEPH KNEPPER 14 '68 LOIS HANSEN CHARLES HARNISCH DAVID HARNISCH VERNON JACOBS BERN JACOBSON JAMES JOHNSON Time Out! Boys running down the halls after school to lose weight came to be a common sight. Mr. Drewianka, as well as the whole school, feels it has not been in vain; the boys have done a remarkable job in their first year. Vas- quez The Library Club is an organization set up for students to learn how to use the library and to help others use it. Our club is a very active one. Every year a student librarian represents our school at the summer workshop held on the University of Wiscon- sin campus. We also take an educational trip to some other libraries. This year we visited the new Winona State College Library. On October 14, we were host to the fall con- ference of the student Librarian Assistants of Western Wisconsin. Beverly Butler, famous author, was our guest speaker at this conference. Besides having our annual pot luck supper, we sponsored a mixer after the West Salem basketball game. Each member is given an award after two years of faithful library servi ce. 54 Visit our paperback bookstore often FIRST ROW: N. Stensven, N. Haug, M. Willis, J. Bet- tesworth, A. Cantlon, S. Advisor, Mr. Valiska, John Larson, President; Gary Oines, Treasurer; Lyell Montgomery, Vice-President; Jerome Bishop, Secretary. The Student Council organized the Homecoming Parade, bonfire, and sock hop, as well as the annual Christmas party. Probably the most monumental task this year was that of formulating a school dress code, which was accepted by the school board. Other duties included selling candy for and applying for a foreign exchange student. The student body can well be proud of the efforts and achievements of their Student Council; their voice to the administration. 56 Rational Monor Society FIRST ROW: Advisor: Mrs. Nelson, D. At the Trempealeau County Fair, our members comprised the bulk of the swine divi- sion exhibitors, showing 100 of the total 110 hogs exhibited. Members were also top con- tenders in the dairy and beef divisions. At the State Fair in Milwaukee, we earned four blue, eleven red, eight white, and seven pink rib- bons. At the Northwestern Livestock Exposition, the chapter attended with nineteen animals in the swine and beef classes. These animals helped Trempealeau County win the trophy for outstanding swine exhibiting. In the early spring, two delegates and one State Farmer De- gree candidate were sent to the State F. F. A. Convention held at Green Lake, where the chapter, as a whole, received a superior rating for outstanding achievements. As a part of our conservation projects, the chapter recently acquired a tree farm. Future plans for academic and practical use are being studied. Green Lake Delegates: K. Congdon, V. Jacobs, B. Johnson. 58 junior Dairy Herd Improvement Assoc. The Junior Dairymens Association's main objective is to develop leadership, showmanship, aand dairying opportunities for its members. During the past year, local members have been engaged in various activities. In June, three local mem- bers attended the State convention and Dairy show held in Chippewa Falls. The show was comprised of a speech contest, a written examination and a showing of dairy animals. One, second place trophy and two, third place trophies were earned by the Gale-Ettrick members.
