Royalty Reigns Over Ancient Rome The 197 3 Homecoming festivi- ties officially began when Tom Sandburg called the annual as- sembly to order on Thursday, October 11, 1973. A Night In Ancient Rome was the theme around which was built a king- dom of activities. Mr. John Glasnovich crowned the king and queen and announced the 1973-74 royal court. Reigning over the festivities were Queen Lynn Harding, and King Gary Rozynek. Ellen Boydstun was chosen as Junior attendant, and Libby Shearer as Sopho- more attendant. A large crowd gathered along Main Street on Thursday evening to view the parade as it proceeded toward Van Dyke Field. The three class floats were judged as the Seniors raced to an easy vic- tory, the Sophomores placed second, and the Juniors fin- ished third for the second con- secutive year. Students congre- gated on Van Dyke Field for the traditional bonfire and snake dance, while cheerlead- ers cheered by the fire. The Moline Maroons proved to be tough Friday night competi- tion. They defeated the Streaks on a rainy Van Dyke field, 21-6. Galesburg brought its Home- coming weekend to a close with the dance on Saturday. It was a record year for attendance as 300 couples swayed to the mu- sic of TWWB. When the last decoration came down, the 1973 Homecoming became memories of a night when Caesar reigned again. np ' Junior Attendant Ellen Boydstun and escort Sam Rescinito.
