Homecoming Royalty Head Festivities Early in September preparations for the 1972 Homecoming, held on October 5, 6, and 7, began when HA Night Amungst the Starsn was decided upon as this yearis theme. Each class began construction of their separate floats while other students engaged in dec- orating the auditorium and gym. Ex- citement mounted as the Homecoming drew nearer. The three-day festivities opened with a much welcomed assem- bly. Here in the space-like atmosphere Mike Ostrander was crowned as King and Chris Johnson coronated as Queen from a lineup of ten anxious candidates. Dawn Davis served as the Junior At- tendant escorted by Phil Redington. The Sophomore Attendant was Ioan Holt escorted by Jim Marshall. Scores of people lined the sides of Main Street to watch the annual Homecoming pa- rade which led through downtown and concluded at the GHS football field with a bonfire. Circling the bonfire, crowds were pepped by the cheerleaders and band while many strings of people raced about in games of 'fcrack-the whipf' Friday night arrived and high spirits led the Streaks to an impressive Homecoming victory over our arch rival, the Quincy Devils, with a score of 43 to nothing. Dressed in formal attire, couples danced to the music of Pep- peridge in the star covered gym. The introduction of the royalty highlighted Saturday night's Homecoming dance. Suddenly the glitter and excitement be- gan to fade, the clock neared eleven, the last song played, and almost too soon, Homecoming had ended. This page sponsored by Miller's Confection Co.
