MISS SYLVIA RYIN Dean of Girls Finding time to listen to all the girls' tales of woe, Miss Ryin has faithfully served GHS as Dean of Girls for five years. Preceding this office, she was an English instructor here at GHS, Her friendly counsel has won the con- fidence and admiration of all the students and faculty. Besides these duties, she is Girls' Service League advisor and co-sponsor ol Stu- dent Council. Miss Ryin has proven herself fully capable as Dean of Girls by her cheerfulness, efficiency, friendliness and willingness to accept responsi- bility. Her job is far from easy and has many responsibilities, but she always is successful in whatever she happens to undertake. Girls do not hesitate to seek her advice. DEANS MR WlLLlAM GGGDWIN Dean of Boys One who is always willing to lend anyone a helping hand with their school problems, is Mr. William Goodwin, Dean of the Boys. He is advisor of Boys' Forum, an organization which is open to all the boys. He spends much time towards the success of its work. Mr. Goodwin also serves as a sponsor of the Student Council. Dean Goodwin is willing to help the boys with their plans for the future and will give them some of his time so he can give helpful advice concerning their plans. Also Dean Good- win gives his assistance to various other school organizations. Any GHS student who is at all acquainted with Mr. Goodwin will probably agree whole- heartedly when we say that he has a good sense of humor, is admired, and very coop- erative. 1-auo-w-

OFFICE STAFF Mrs. Pauline Werner, who takes the attendance, and who is in charge of all mimeographing, and typing of letters for both deans, is standing at the left. Mrs. Donaldson is seated next, and has the big job as the school registrar. Mrs. Elsie Patanella is standing next: she is the private secretary of Mr. Wooley and sees that each student is assigned a locker. This office staff has been serving GHS for several years. They have proved themselves capable and efficient in these past years. They are kept busy during the summer months in prepara- tion for the starting of school in the fall. The students don't realize how much time this staff spends in making the school operate efficiently. Mr.Wesley Wooley One of the most important and re- spected jobs in the community today is that of being a high school principal. The person holding this job must pos- sess democratic ideals, executive abil- ity, inexhaustible patience, friendliness, enthusiasm, and above all, leadership. These essential qualities are only a portion of those required for a person to manage adeptly a modern high school. Our capable principal, Wesley T. Wooley, meets all of these qualifica- tions and many more. Among his many duties are: oper- ating the school within the budget, supervising and guiding the students and faculty, teaching democracy, pro- moting public relations, maintaining the high standards set by the state and guiding the school's curricular program. With these many executive responsi- bilities, he also teaches a psychology class. Mr. Wooley is very active in several civic organizations. ln addition to serv- ing as president of the Community Chest in Galesburg, he is a member of other service clubs. Mr. Wooley's high ideals and many accomplishments through the year, will always be remembered by GHS stu- dents.

FACULTY CDF Gr. l-T. S. Behind each door at Galesburg High School there can be found at least one teacher. Since we have many doors we also have a great many teachers, but here at GHS, quantity will never be known to triumph over quality, and our teachers are no exception. Each faculty member co-operates with the rest to develop Well-balanced, active, useful citizens of tomorrow's world. There are many people on the faculty who are always ready to lend a hand to anyone who happens to be in need of advice. Besides helping students academically, many members of the faculty are advisors for various clubs and organizations here in school. These teachers are prepared to listen to all the students' tales of woe and to help them clear their problems. They always find time to help us with the many problems we bring them. This willing guidance makes our life at school much more pleasant. During the past school year, we learned a lot about teachers. Aside from being a group of swell teachers, they all have a sense of humor which is supposedly uncommon among teachers. All of us have criticized our teachers at one time or another, but we should realize that they know what is best for us. Have you ever stopped to realize how much time teachers spend at their work: correcting papers and preparing the next day's plan? They devote much of their time to their work from which we benefit. All of the extra work they do is seldom appreciated by the student body. We present our faculty who have made life so happy for us here at GHS. As they watch the seniors leave school to take their places in the world, they can be sure that they have done much to help them have an equal chance at success. This could only be true in a democracy where we have teachers pre- paring students for their life ahead. We wish to congratulate our faculty on the fine job they are doing in the field of education.
