, in ln Honor ol Miss Anno Nelson Q X A TRIBUTE 'Tis books that gbape a man? success And learning that decides bis day. The talent of a man is dead 'Till education ligbts the way. You were the Friend of those you taught- A patient guide, with gentle tact, A carefree youth was turned to thought As brighter grew the realms of fact. Upon our looms with care you set A pattern of resplendent hue, A model For lile's lirst design. For this, Youth gives its praise to you. - Dean Peterson MY LATIN TEACHER Yes, you taught us Latin, OF all its forms we learned, We read ol Cicero and Caesar, And how the Roman walls were burned. l Few will long remember The famous quoted lines, Ol gods the Romans worshipped, Their customs and their signs--- But expressions on your lcindly lace, Pleasant hours when classes met, The Friendly way you worlced with us, All,are cherished thoughts we can't Forget- - Rena Godwin B fu .l- '.!' - E'::::5e: L' 'IIIIIF' ' 'W I Nl 'fx o Q o :esse- .4 fr x T? it T,

The music of his heart he gave to men And 'scribed his name with simple pen. - Dean Peterson SIR WALTER SCOTT At Sandy-Knowe, your grandsire's place You first gave ear to legends told, Heard ballads sung of Border days, And learned the charm of days of old We love your Waverly and Marmion, A The Rnightly spell of lvanhoe, With Fancy free you talce us baclc To feudal days of long ago. TWG SCDNNETS The sea is spealcing, deep in stormy roar Echoes arrive in thunder fringed with spray. The ships are driven swift by steeds of gray That Neptune guides across from shore to shore. A captain stands on declc, afraid no more, Llnheeding waves that seelc to wash away The man whose steadfast hand combatsthe fray And turns the prow to cut the tempest's core. The briny dirges carve their notes in death Along the reefs of ruin that line the sea. Beneath the restless oceanfs surging breath Are hapless bones of seamen, swinging free. The sea's the draught of doom,- the devil's strength, A coffin, craving men to fill its length. - Dean Peterson A chill wind shatters clear Octobefs day, And birds, that late and long deceived have been By nature's Iing'ring sunny smile, are seen In hasty flight. No longer will they stay. The trees, soon stripped of gay and bright array, Incensed are, and wave their arms, and lean To southward, then to northward they careen, As to the changing wind they yield and sway. On high the fleecy, tumbled clouds surge by. The shifting, silent depths of ether blue, Part midway to receive the cooling sun, 'I-hat, lilce a Icing, recedes into the slcy. The fair, beloved summer bids adieu, For beauteous winter needs must reign anew. - Mary Turnbull 'S 159' m:q,:x.: Ag-tf. -ham.:-nzgyac. . nazi? 1731,-12' - '13 t11f I:5 :ff what ,..f if 43,1 1,g:::'.
