Tommy A CHILDISH FANCY. A PASSING WHIM- Thoi Yellow Piece of Steel .langlel Jang! .langlel clangs the street car as it roots its predestined course through every bloclc, hour alter hour, day after day, year after year, until it merges into the lives of the worlcing present. The old yellow car jerlcs along its monotonous way, delivering the dinner pail masses, the bridge crew, the school review---life in its prime. From the heart ol the bustle to slum, to apartment, to home, that hitching piece of saliron steel bumps along to cater to its million. In teems with life in every stage. That old hoolc nosed one, whose appearance has driven away all prospects, has endured a trying hour with her eldest sister Sarah, who has accidentally slipped into that old maid stage. Sarah also sullers rheumatism. Constantly viewing her paint bespattered counten- ance or reflected admirers, the youngest passenger rides ceaselessly on one small dime. 'Tis sad a hand- some conductor must be so businesslilcel Perhaps that old Fossil in the third seat regrets his weelcly spree. Thinlcing ol lVIarthy's reprimand for his depleted purse, he resolves to he more careful with those cronies next time. The old blaclc matron rides alone, separated from the rest. She spends her days pleasing superiors but slips into her own world when her worlc is Finished. The young fellow with the shilting eyes slouches oil the car. His defiant opposition to society is the city's greatest problem. The car swerves as it stops. Bit by bit, life leaves that tram to wall: down paths ol glory or despair. Who knows? -Josephine Lowry TO BE PATRONIZED BY EVERYONE- HEI M STER FOR S A EVERYONE KNOWS FROM HIS CURLY HEAD TO HIS SOFT BROWN TOES HE GURGLES FOR ATTENTION AND CROWS WHEN HE GETS IT HES A CLEVER LITTLE MITE AND NEVER FORGETS IT. -JEANNE ELD
