To o Trellis Summer trellis, white and happy, Covered with the blooming rose, You display all loveliness That art and beauty can compose. Now in summer, friends surround you, Bees sip honey from the rose, And birds perch lightly on your bars Hunting shadows for repose. Time will come when you'll be pitied, Sorry will your aspect be, You will have no birds and roses, Soon from you will beauty Flee. Winter winds will whistle through you, People seeing you will frown, And your vines, now green and blooming, Soon will turn to withered brown.
