OUR CIRCUS In future yearsour high school days will emerge from the course of our destiny as the spice, the zest of our youth-the never-to-be-forgotten cir- cus of life. The Reilector pictures for you students, faculty, and activ- ities on parade in a gay panorama of joy, color, and glamour, true to the life of the circus. Symbolic allusions scattered throughout the pages of this year-book re- veal comparisons between the colorful circus and our high school days. No circus is a success 3 without a ringmasterg neith- L er could our school be a suc- cess without the smoothing influence of administrative power. Such authority is typied also by the bally- e r- hoo man of the circus and by the wise super- I X 6 g vision of the animal trainer I and caretaker. Symbolic likenesses to classes are wnq represented in the animals D of the menagerie. The masterful elephant shows SY the strength, the power of the ever- advancing seniors. T h e 2371, hghting cock is suited to the argu- mentative and se1f-conii- dent juniors, while the sly, mischievous sophomores 50 are portrayed by I, the playful bear cub. An os- J, trich, head hidden, is the shy unassuming frosh . A ,., The tiger head stands f Cf as the appropriate symbol f for the Galesburg grid boys. The ever-ready and 0 well trained basketeers are represented by the skillful? seal of the ring. An agile kangaroo, always v 1, on the alert, is the sym- U I, bol for our swift track- men. The organizations we 9 know so well are often called my the side shows of high school '55 life. Comparing them to the 06,1 side shows of the circus, we 'note the popular hula girl, the brawny strong lman, and the Oriental ' snake-charmer, all inevita- Y ble sights of the circus. S-'53 The features of fun, hu- mor, and wit take form in the clever, mm W lovable clown, his sly little mongrel dog, ' .- and the unescapable trick donkey, comical to the ex- treme. In order to leave that pleasant feeling of gen- X- uine joy found in every high school year, let us each march to the mu- sic that he hears and follow the parade into the circus. . .
