National Honor Society Founded in 1921, the National Honor Society has now over 5000 chapters in the United States. It is organized as a branch of the National Association of Secondary Principals, and over the years election to this group has come to represent a very distinguished honor. Students are chosen upon the basis of four attributes: Character, Leadership, Service and Scholarship. The committee is pleased to announce that the following members have been elected for the year 1966-67, left to right: Connie Flook, Beth Underwood, Jackie Adams, Sallie VanAvery, Robert Reck, Elizabeth Wagar, Mr. Burrell (sponsor), Harriet Roelof, Steve Bower, Linda VanDyke, Roger Max- son, Linda Zahn, Nancy Maile. DAR PILGRIM — Harriet Roelof has been selected as D. A. R. Pilgrim by the girls of the senior class and the facul¬ ty on the basis of her personal qualities of patriotism, lead¬ ership, service and scholarship. The Daughters of the American Revolution was found¬ ed in 1890. It is composed of women who are descendants of any ancestor who “with unfailing loyalty rendered materi¬ al aid to the cause of independence as a recognized pa¬ triot”. The object of the organization is to maintain institu¬ tions of American freedom. 19

VALEDICTORIAN — Elizabeth Ann Wagar holds the highest honor of a graduating class, that of being valedicto¬ rian. She has maintained a 4.0 average, a perfect record, throughout her high school years. Elizabeth, who has ma¬ jored in English, science, and math, intends to further her education at Michigan State University, where she will major in liberal arts. £ SALU TATORIAN — Chosen as this year’s salutatorian is Harriet Ann Roelof, with a 3.684 average. Majoring in English and social science, she plans to attend Hope Col¬ lege to major in elementary education. 18
