National Honor Society Fifteen members of the class of 1965 were elected to the G-A Chapter of the National Honor Society. They were chosen on the basis of character, leadership, scholarship, and service. The new members are, standing: Dan Stew¬ art, Ken Sommerville, Gary Underwood, Mr. Burrell, Advisor; Joanne Wantz, Dale DeHaan, Bev Peters. SEATED: Maddy Maxson, Betsy Eppstein, Ted Webster, Jim Waybrant, Stephanie Pierman, Linda Lancaster, Marge McLarty, MarDee Schissel. Absent: Cynthia Schieber. DAR MarDee Schissel was chosen for DAR Pilgrim by the Senior girls and the faculty. She was selected on the basis of dependability, citizenship, and leadership. MarDee ' s hobbies are reading, ten¬ nis, and playing the piano. This fall she will enter Nazareth College. 16

Senior Honors VALEDICTORIAN This year the highest honor in a high school career, that of being Valedictorian is held by Betsy Eppstein. Throughout her high school years, Betsy has followed a College Prepara¬ tory course, obtaining a 3.82 average. She has majors in Math, science, social science, English, music, and a minor in French. Betsy has participated in many school clubs and activities including dramatics and she enjoys sewing for a hobby. For the second semester, Betsy attended Western Michigan University for half day sessions. In the fall she will attend the University of Michigan. I SALUTATORIAN The position of Salutatorian is held this year by Joanne Wantz. Joanne obtained a 3.71 average while taking a college prepa¬ ratory course. Her majors are in math, English, science, so¬ cial science and a minor in French. Her hobby is sewing and she has been active in many extracurricular activities. Joanne has been kept very busy during the second semester attending half day sessions at Western as well as two classes at G-A. Hoping for a teaching career in math, Joanne will continue her schooling at Western this fall.
