The Annual Staff is dedicating the yearbook to President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. This year, above all in our generation, is one in which we all must pause and give serious thought to our future. The assassination of President Kennedy has awakened this thought in all of us. Our generation must carry forward the ideals of our late President. Let us give serious thought to what, without a doubt, will be¬ come very hallowed words - “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your coun¬ try ' Education is in itself a wide and heavily traveled pathway. There are many forks in this pathway - each leading to some goal set by those who are traveling upon it. Therefore, let us do our share by setting a goal for ourselves which will further the progress of our great country and its leadership in the world. We are proud of our school, our faculty, and our great heritage. Throughout this book we are portraying the great gifts that are ours for only the desire or quest of knowledge. The opportunities are being passed to you, future graduates, so let us not become placid, but rush forward in our goals to better serve our country and keep that “Eternal Light burning. Owo A w, CHARLES C. COGGINS Superintendent As we see Mr. Coggins coming down the walk, we are reminded of the many visits he has paid us, both while the school was being built and after we had moved into it. Mr. Coggins “took over the reins ' of the super intendency in the midst of our building program. His work was well planned and his leisure time limited while he supervised all the details connected with building a new school. Mr. Coggins was educated at Eastern Michigan University where he received a B.S. degree and at the University of Michigan, where he earned a Master ' s degree. Mr. Coggins brought with him to Galesburg his active and enthusiastic family. His wife teaches high school English and two of his children have graduated from our school. His dog “Ricky nearly replaced the “Ram as the school mascot, but the Coggins ' new pet “Cleo will find it most difficult to replace “Ricky ' s position in the main office. Mrs. Wheaton has been with our system for 18 years. She is present¬ ly serving as Mr. Coggins ' “right hand man. She is definitely an integral part of our school. 4
