The catalyst used is a type ot silica- alumina clay, ground to a powder so fine that the material may be made to flow in pipes as does a liquid, hence the name fluid catalyst. The process is a simple one, the cycle of opera- tion requiring the following: ,Lao Contact the catalyst and the heavy gas oil charge stock at temperatures around 9153 F and the cracking or decomposition of the ga oil charge takes place.
