SENIQRS How proud we were' And for good reason too because on September 5 l938 we were entermg Galena Hrgh School as Freshmen We were honored by havmg Mrss Hoard and Mlss Hubbard as our class sponsors We rmmed ately elected the followrng class offrcers Presrdent Leon Langford Vrce Presr dent Kenneth Myers Secretary Treasurer B1ll19 Bradshaw Reporter lmo lean Feagan Cheer Leaders Ruth Esther Hasenplaugh and lohn Ioseph Thus we set out on the long road to knowledge Before the year had ended thrs group of lO8 Freshmen had enzoyed several successful partres and had gamed many frrends among the upper classmen We began our Sophomore year m the hrghest of sp1r1ts Much wrser now we had lost the trtle of Greenhorns To represent us we chose these members of our class as offrcers Presrdent Leon Langford V1cePres1dent lmo lean Feagan Secretary Treasurer B1ll1e Bradshaw Reporter Norma Crabtree and Cheer Leaders Ruth Esther Hasenplaugh and George Downmg The hrghlrght of thrs year came when our candrdate Martha France was elected Athletrc Queen Strll garnrng we reached another level as we became Tumors Eager to maxntam our good reputatron the followmg were elected as class offlcers Presrdent lunror Shaw Vrce Presrdent Archre W1ll1ams Secretary lmo lean Feagan Treasurer B1ll1e Bradshaw and Reporter Norma Crabtree Thrs was mdeed a memorable year' Durrng the hohday season rnstead of the customary tree rn the hall the class planted an evergreen tree on the school grounds Just east of the gymnasrum where 1t stands as a growrng memorral The cast chosen for the Qne Act Play Contest of the Tw1n Valley League held at Oswego rncluded four of the members of our class They were Maryorre Iarrett Leon Langford Brll Wrlson and Archre W1ll1ams The class play S1las Smrdge From Turnrp Rtdge was a huge success Martha France our candrdate rergned as Queen of the Blue and Whrte We were unable to resrst sprrng and the call of Mother Nature so we took a sneak day IH Aprrl For several days we reaped a Just punlshment but all agreed the prcnrc was fun' To Marrorre larrett was grven the honor of berng crowned Athletlc Queen of 41 Durrng the term Mrss Dorotha Senter and Mrss Flora Hubbard lent therr patrent and rnsprrrng 1nflu ence as our class sponsors To close th1s year we entertarned the Senrors at the annual banquet Then our goal was rn srght for we were d1gn1f1ed Sen ors Qur number had decreased to nearly half yet together we pushed forward Thrs year our class offrcers were Presrdent Edward Enyart V1cePres1dent Harold Glbson Secretary lmo lean Feagan Treasurer Leon Langford Reporter Drck Sellers and Cheer Leaders Ruth Esther Hasenplaugh and Elrzabeth Anne lones We succe ded rn electmg our candrdates Merv1n Frchtner and Ruth Esther Hasen olaugh as Kmg and Queen of the Blue and 'Wh e Much talent and ab lrty to act was shown when N9 presented our class play entrtled Coveralls A week later the play was taken to Rrverton on an exchange program We were guests of the Tumors at a delrghtful banquet near the end of the school year Qur Commencement program was a pageant entrtled Freeaom Fcre Jer whrch eprcted the struggle of Amerrca for Freedom We offer our thanks to Mrss Hubbard and Mrs Qpal Hoard Roberts for efforts that have made our four years rn G H S such an rmmense success . 1 1- 1 1 'J ' ' I I - - I I T I I V 1 1 - - 1 , 11 11 - 1 ' I I - I I T I I I I , . 1 1 , . , .
