ABOVE: Mr. R. Christianson ABOVE: Mr. L. Drew NEW COURSES ADDED TO SOCIAL STUDIES DEPT. At the present time two credits are required for grad- uation, U. S. History and American Problems, these are required of the junior and senior classes. Students have a variety of electives to select from also. Political Systems and Civics for the 9th grade, World History for grades 10, 11, and 12. This year for the first time, two new semester courses have been added, Introductions to the Behavorial Sciences and Sociology. Next year the American Problems course will be re- placed by four new electives, two of which are re- quired. These new courses will be Introduction to Behavorial Science, Sociology, Consumer Economics and Political Science. With the additions of new courses and improvements on the older ones, the Social Studies department is preparing students for outside life and further education in a more modern and complex system of living. LANGUAGE GIVES US AN UNDERSTANDING 0F OTHER PEGPLE The French Department presently offers five possible years of consecutive study of the language. Speaking the language as a means of communication is the primary aim of the course study Th . . e language laboratory enables students to listen to native speak- ers and to work on an individual basis. Mrs. Christianson teaches French on both the senior high and junior high levels. This year the English Department consists of four faculty members: Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Twesme, Mrs. Runnestrand, and Mr. Costanzo. The goal of the English Department is to give students knowledge of their language and an understanding of other people through reading, writing, speaking, and listening. At the present time, four years of English is required, Each year seniors have a choice between a college preparatory course and a course which is more vocational in nature. After several years of talk and several months of planning which included a visit to other schools and various meetings, next year English courses offered to juniors and seniors will be changed and improved. Quick, hide em before she comes! HOME ECS NEW LOOK The new look in home economics this year was a result of opening classes to the boys as well as girls. More enrolled in foods classes then before, and all offerings except Home Economics I were opened to both boys and girls. Home Economics concerns itself with the overall ideas of human growth and development, management of family resources and personal and family relationships. Yearh long courses are offered in Beginning Home Economics and the Family and semester courses in Food, Clothing, Housing and Home Furnishing, and Home Management.
