MATH STUDENTS USE COMPUTERS This year, senior students accompanied by their instructors, attended a two day work- shop at Winona, where they studied the use of computers and worked with Fortran Language which deals with computer programming. In the future, the Math Department hopes to establish computer programming for all grades, and to add two new courses to the curriculum next year, Consumers Math and Applied Math. BELOW: Mr. J. ADDITICNAL FACILITIES FOR SCIENCE DEPARTMENT The Science Department has improved its facilities with the remodeling of Room 10. Now all three science labs are located in the same part of the build- ing. The new addition will provide more laboratory space for all science students. It is hoped that some- time in the near future a greenhouse may be provided for botanical and ecological studies. The IPS course that was incorporated into our curricu- lum last year is definitely an asset. It is providing freshmen with a good basic foundation in laboratory and problem solving techniques that will aid all ad- vanced science courses. Biology Department has revised its curriculum for next year. Biology course contents have been changed and categorized into semester courses with all prerequisites listed. LANGUAGE GIVES US AN UNDERSTANDING 0F OTHER PEGPLE The French Department presently offers five possible years of consecutive study of the language. Speaking the language as a means of communication is the primary aim of the course study Th . . e language laboratory enables students to listen to native speak- ers and to work on an individual basis. Mrs. Christianson teaches French on both the senior high and junior high levels. This year the English Department consists of four faculty members: Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Twesme, Mrs. Runnestrand, and Mr. Costanzo. The goal of the English Department is to give students knowledge of their language and an understanding of other people through reading, writing, speaking, and listening. At the present time, four years of English is required, Each year seniors have a choice between a college preparatory course and a course which is more vocational in nature. After several years of talk and several months of planning which included a visit to other schools and various meetings, next year English courses offered to juniors and seniors will be changed and improved.
