Nerby NEW COURSES ADDED TO BUSINESS CURRICULUM Mrs. Nerby, new to the business department this year, is teaching Typing I, Shorthand I and Book- keeping. Mrs. Rowlands another addition to the department, is teaching Typing I and Personal Typing half days. Mrs. Hanson teaches Typing I, Typing II, Shorthand II and a two-hour block Office Education class. Typing II, Shorthand II and Office Education is new to the curricultun this year. Office Education is of special interest to seniors who plan to enter the office labor market immediately after graduation or who plan to attend a technical institute. The classroom takes on the appearance of an office through the use of office furniture, office machines and other routine office equipment. Basic skills in office proceedures, duplicating, office machines, machine and shorthand transcription, data processing and filing are taught. A simulated office project is used third quarter to further develop basic skills and make office work come alive. During the fourth quarter each student receives on-the -job training in a local business office. The business department looks forward to increased rewards for the students participating in this vocational program. 87

G.E.T. TCDGETHER Gale -Ettrick and Trempealeau, separate units through june of '71, united for the 1971-72 school year. The year began a period of apprehension and expectation for many of LIS. We knew that each school had its own greatness and potential, each school was proud of its heritage, tradition and accomplishments. The new high school should be able to draw on the past and move forward to even greater feats than each school could have by itself. This was our expectation. Our apprehension concerning the '71-72 school year was dissipated within a few weeks. Students found a common cause to rally around. The football team, composed of players from both schools, started the season successfully and continued winning. The Lmity demonstated in supporting the football team extended to other facets of school life. Election of organizational officers, student council members, and king and queens showed complete disregard for locality origin. As the school year progressed, the students demonstrated their unity to an increasing degree, and soon the school was commonly being called Gale -Ettrick-Trempealeau. QThe name was accepted having been decided on by a majority of the students. 5 It seemed to illustrate and secure the great tradition and history of both great schools. During the school year, new cotuses and organizations appeared. A pep club was organized to support our team. An industrial arts club, wrestling, cheerleaders and new courses such as psychology, sociology, and advanced courses now being offered were initiated in our school life. Faculty members in the various departments also started working on an evaluation of present curricultun offerings and laid the ground work for new offerings in the comming year. They are hoping that the new design of course offerings will fit the needs and desires of our students. The success of the 1971-72 school year is a tribute to the understanding and tolerance exhibited by students, teachers and others concerned with our school and has proven that two schools, Gale -Ettrick and Trempealeau, can bring their greatness and proud traditions together - that they can draw from, and use their greatness and tradition to formulate their goals for greatness as Gale -Ettrick- Trempealeau High School, I say, Thank you for making our year a success, and I hope that your experiences here have helped to build a platform for your future. THE ARTS The music department of Gale -Ettrick-Trempealeau High School strives not only to obtain perfection in the mechanics of music, but also to develop responsible young adults who have a sense of pride in their organizations. The Band, under the direction of Mr. Don Rowlands, and the Mixed Chorus and Girls Glee Club, under the direction of Mr. Randall Swenson, practice and perform many different types of music. Students find enjoyment in performing musical numbers and develop a sense of appreciation for all types of music. Band and Chorus students must be responsible and take it upon themselves to perform their parts to perfection. The band students put forth extra effort when they play at all home football and basketball games. Students are encouraged to participate in the solo-ensemble contest in order to develop individual skills and to experience the satisfaction of winning recognition on a personal- competition level. Mr. Green says, The excitement of art lies in not knowing.
