REDMEN WIN FOURTH CONSECUTIVE CONFERENCE TITLE The 1972 - Redmen were bolstered by the attachment of Trempealeau to our school district. ln just a few weeks the athletes from the two schools were united into a single, cohesive unit that brought the Redmen their fourth straight conference championship and extended their winning streak to 33 games, the longest winning streak going in the state at this time. This year's team featured a ball-control attack, with Steve Scheller providing the power running and Dan Brueggen, Dan Folkedahl and Dan Baer furnishing the speed to run wide. Junior quarterback, Fran Peterson, directed a short passing game that provided balance to the Redmen attack. In addition to the backs already mentioned, Peterson's prime receivers were John Byom and Dennis Blank. This years offensive line, Reed Neiderkorn, Todd johnson, Ed Przytarski, Dean Remus and Darcy Remus, did an outstanding job in paving the way for our runners and protecting the passer. The defensive unit was led by a strong group of linemen that provided a particularly good pass rush. Demiis Blank, Steve Scheller, Tony Jensen, Paul Halderson, Ed Kopp, Lonnie Krackow and Todd johnson all saw a lot of action in the defensive line. Glenn Brommerick, Dan Brueggen and Tim Hauser pro- vided the Redmen with strength at the key linebacking positions. John Byom, Mike Stellflue, Rich Truax, Mark Olson, Dan Baer, Dan Folkedahl, and Pat Scheller all saw action in a secondary that came up with many key defensive plays throughout the season. John Byom, Dan Brueggen, Steve Scheller, Todd Johnson and Darcy Remus were all honored by being chosen to the all con- ference team. This was a particularly satisfying season. Athletes who had previously been bitter rivals were thrown together on the same field and were men enough to throw off any old animosities and become a strong unit that we are all very proud of. We will lose 12 senior lettermen through graduation, but with 21 returning lettermen, we hope the 1972 - football team will continue to play football in the Redmen tradition. RIGI-IT: Steve Scheller shows action that made him All-Conference Defensive End. 68
