GALE-ETTRICK GETS BETTER Joint success: When Trempeale au consolidated with the already combined Gale-Ettrick, the Redmen's football team acquired three starters, end Dennis Blank and linebacker Glenn Brommerick and Dan Brueggen, a few reasons why the Redmen are 6-0 so far this season and holders of a 31-game winning streak, currently the longest streak among high schools in Wisconsin. De- fending Coulee Conference champion, Gale-Ettrick is 5-0 in the Coulee thus far. The three have been valuable additions, Gale- Ettrick's coach Russ Lund remarked. We thought we would be strong on defense this ye ar and we have been. Our offensive line has been the surprise for us. With a 190-pound average across our defensive front five, we are bigger than we normally are. Par has been from 160-165. Offensively, we don't have one 'big gun' although Steve Scheller is a hard, strong rtmner at fullback, with 12 touchdowns. Actually the Redmen's 31-game skein has come under two different coaches, Lund and Larry Whittier. Lund replaced Whittier in 1969, so the Redmen have 22 straight victories under Lund's tutelage. Whittier took a coaching spot at a small independent school near Milwaukee. . Brommerick, 175-pound senior, and Brueggen, 165- pound senior, lend agility to the defense, while Blank, 6-foot-5, 200-pounder, goes both ways at end. Gale-Ettrick, No. 1 rated among small schools in Wisconsin in the final Associated Press football poll in 1970 and 1969, now has 499 students in its top four grades, placing it in the large school class.
