J, boasting a member- ship of 127 this year, participated in such diverse activities as basketball and bowling in the fall, curling, broom hockey and volleyball in the winter, softball and archery in the spring. To earn a letter a member must participate in two of these activities per year for two years. Pins and bars are additional awards for the third and fourth years. Other activities the girls participate in include a special swim party, a bowling party, and a tobogganing and skating party. The officers this year are Anita Bishop, President, Diane Walski, Vice-President, and Carol Wilber, Secretary-Treasurer. The gymnastics team, coached by Mrs. Warriner and headed by Captain Katy Twesme, showed great promise for many successful seasons to come. The core of the team is made up of juniors and sophomores with only two seniors graduating. The team defeated Melrose -Mindoro and LaCrosse Logan in dual meets and came in a close third in a quadrangular held at West Salem. A 14-school invitational, also at West Salem, showed what a high level the girls around the state have reached in this sport. Competition is held in four areas: floor exercise, balance beam, uneven parallel bars, and side horse vaulting. A girl may choose to do beginning or intermediate compulsory routines or intermediate optional routines.
