Joe Otey prepares to cut his foot off with his mower. SUMMER ISN'T f For once, we all got out of school for summer break before summer was over. School ended May 30, and that gave us almost 21,6 months for sun and fun. To tell the truth, there wasn't a lot of hot sun. When it wasn't raining, it was too Cold, but somehow we managed to do all that was expected of us to keep up our reputations. As usual, swimming and sunbathing were major pastimes. Not all of us had a great deal of free time because of work. If we weren't bagging groceries, mowing lawns, washing cars, or hauling lumber, we were hard at work in depart- ment stores and factories. On the weekends, however, we always busted loose and Headed for the Mountains . Grandfather's, the disco located at the Midtowner became the place to spend all our big bucks . Two or three times a week we put on our boogie shoes and danced the night away. Cruising, boy! girl watching, and chug-a-luggin' were still popular sports for those of us who have athletic tastes. 4 STUDENT LIFE Kelly Martin practices For the 1980 Olympic diving competition. f T .
