FACULTY A In addition 'to' teaching' a full load of' courses and acting as a counselor, each faculty member devoted many hours to outsideg activities. 'Many teachers pursued excellence in teaching by travel- ing abroad or by spending time as students ,them- selves ,in 'refresher ,courses to keep pace with the evenchanging world of teaching. Several stu- dents' from RadfordCollege did their student teaching in different departments at GHS under the supervision of the teachers in related depart- mentsl- ' ' S , RT Mrs. Lemons instructs studcntin the fundamentals of oil painting. . W The Art Course consisted of a com- e prehensive study of American and for- eign artists and. their techniques. Dur- ing the year, students were taught many different concepts in the area of pen and ink, water colors, pastels, charcoal, oilg' decoupage, and metal etching. 'The 'importance of individual expression and creativity were always stressed. Students ended the year by displaying their artwork in a sidewalk art show. S . E Gusn The English classes not only were taught the fundamentals of grammarand modern linguistics but also ,explored .different periods of American and English literature. Students studiedthe con- tributions -of authors in American literature and themes of stories as they related to modern times.. Special emphasis was placed on composition in reach grade level. Writing began inthe eighth grade with sentence structure and paragraph writing and progressed through thetwelfthe grade with narration and essays for greater depth of expression.
