The AFS sponsored an assembly a+ which Keirh Beck, who, Through 'rhe AFS, spenl' lasl summer in Belgium, shared some of his experiences wiih lhe srudenl' body by speaking aboui' his 'frip and showing slides. A+ a second assembly Yara de Carvalho, our GHS ex- change siudenl' from Brazil, spoke aboul' her home- land. Donned in a carnival coslume, Yara relaled some of 'lhe 'rhings which Teenagers in Brazil enjoy, fhe mosi' popular aclivily being 'rhe annual carnival. Looking ahead, lhe club sponsored fund-raising ac- rivilies lo bring a foreign exchange sludenl' lo Gailhersburg nex'l year. In 'rhe fall, members held ihe lradilional bake sale al' home foorball games. Nexi on fheir lisl of fall aclivilies was a successful dance fealuring fhe Banned. Spring came and so did a pledge drive during which +hey asked srudenls io pledge a dollar or more in order 'lo perpeluale The AFS program. Once again rhe council held many of lheir annual aclivilies. For lhe second year lhey sponsored 'rhe Gills- for-Giving proiecr, in which 300 gills were collecfed for menlal pafienis lo give 'rheir families al Chrislmas. They honored rhe parenls of our alhleles by holding a Dad's Day during foolloall season and a Mom's Nigh+ during baskelball and wresfling seasons.
