Peace, Quiet, and Courtesy is the motto of our G.l l.S. Library. Members who work in the library arrange books on the shelves, alphabetize the card catalog, aid students, and check out books. Grades 7-12 experienced a responsibility of learning about the library functions in order to know where to locate books, and how to act in a library. Sponsored by Miss Betty Culotta, librarian, the Library Club consisting of 80 members elected these officers: President, Carole Gilliam, Vice President, Larry McLean, Secretary, Jeanne' Price, Treasurer, Nita McClain.

Future Teachers OF America.. Future Teachers of America prepares high school students for teaching roles after college gradua- tion. Useful experiences were gained through its many functions, such as assisting faculty mem- bers and practice teaching. Our F.T.A. attended the State Convention in Baltimore last spring, and in turn entertained the Frederick chapter. Joy Green presided over the club and Miss Marian Curling acted as faculty sponsor. Jr. High Speech Club Meeting twice a month with Mrs. Walthall as their sponsor, the junior high Speech Club has attempted to improve their public speaking. Some of the proiects were recording voices, oral reading, debates, and dramatic readings. 89

The Science Fair held on April T7-T8 gave the stu- dents of G.H.S. a chance to con- duct original research, to perform experiments and to express them- selves in many areas of science. This year as in previous YBCIYS emphasis was given to research projects. The first prize winners in each category were sent to Montgomery Blair H. S. to com- pete in the County Science Fair.
