only things the Llon squad lacked was weight The Lions repeatedly stopped the opposition for minimum gams and the Gales were jolted for just a six point lead for almost four quarters The last sixteen pomts were scored 1n the final minutes against a tired but valiant team of Blue and Gold Defensive standouts were Dolan lNeal Steiner Wood and Hutchinson Ed Dolan played a tre mendous game bv stopping numerous runners who were threatening to score MIFFLIN Out for revenge after the Lancaster defeat the Lions rolled over a splrlted but weak Mifflin team The Mifflin squad was no match for the powerful cllckmg offense of the Blue and Gold Bob Lamneck started the touchdown parade in the first quarter on a 5 yard blast through the middle Mlfflxn came roaring back on a 66 yard run but to no av all Gahanna kept pounding defense with his bull luke rushes Lamneck scored agam on the 27 yard run to end the HI'St period of scoring Jack Neal scored m the second period while Don Souder continued to get pomts by mak mg a 2 polnt conversion In the second half the Lions really took a lead when Don Souder made a TD and also converted for 2 pomts This halt' was also fllled with other stars llke Jlm Goldhart who made two touchdowns and Jxm Smothers and Harry Alexander who took turns in gettmg the extra pomts GROVE CITY Lmcoln traveled to Grove City w here the team suffered a serious setback in their campalgn At first xt seemed like another Mlffhn game Bob Lamneck scored in the first period for the first touchdown of the game and Ed Dolan followed suxt by blastmg through for another six points But two 86 vard punt returns and a 75 yard kxckoff run by Holmes of Grove City was too much for the Llons of LHS WESTERVILLE One of the supposedlv power ful teams of the new M1d Eight League came to Gahanna expectmg an easy wln However a real battle raged under the lights of the home team The half ended as Gahanna got wlthm SIX lnches of the goal and a touchdown In the second halt the crowd got what they wanted most Jack heal showed his class by traveling 67 yards for pay dirt which put Gahanna out ln front However the Westerville squad bounced rlght back ln the fourth period with a TD of their own which ended the game tied 6 6 vb- sn HILLIARDS After tlemg Westervllle the Lin coln team traveled through a cold mght to the football field of Hxlllards High Hllllards being one of the leading teams proved their strength The Hllliards team dlsplayed some very fine offen sive plays whlch the LIODS could not equal with only six regular first strlng men playing Our only touchdown was made ln the fourth quarter by Jim Goldhart and Jim Smothers went over for 2 points MARYSVILLE The fog shrouded homecoming game was a hard battle all the way Ed Dolan scored Lincoln s lone touchdown durlng the second quarter Marysville scored a six pomter ln the third quarter and threatened to score in the final one but the never dxe Lions held on then' own twenty yard line This was somewhat of a victory for our new coach Pete McKillip who last year GROVEPORT The Lions travelled to the Host s field with victory in mind and came back with victory an hand The Lmcoln Lxons overcame a score ln the fourth perlod by the Cruisers to tally twxce ln the same period themselves Jack Neal pushed over both TDs makmg the last one with only 19 seconds left m the game Longstreth and Smothers plav ed key roles during the contest with Longstreth catching a deep pass from Souder to set up the last touchdown and Smothers tre mendous sprints for good gams all ev enlng LONDON Gahanna Lmcoln came up agamst the Mud Eight leader ln the final match of the 1958 season The London Raiders possessed a powerful offense which the Golden Lions could not match all evening The Lincoln men led 12 8 at the half on an eighty yard burst through the mlddle by Jnm Smothers and seven yard blast by Jack lNeal lxeals touchdown came after a 99 2f3 yard drive when the I lons stopped the London Raiders short of the goal by one foot and started the ball gomg the opposlte dxrectxon The London team could not be stopped however m the second half when they scored 32 pomts to out distance the Blue and Gold Reserve Football Scores Mlfflln Grove City XV6St6!'Vlll6 Bishop Hartley Groveport Lmcoln Lincoln Lincoln Lmcoln Lincoln N . l ' A i ,.
