A successful community is evident from the character and interest of the people who live in it. Gage Park High School is fortunate inasmuch as it is located in an excellent residential district with many community activities. In the years our High School has been functioning, a spirit of co-operation and a bond of appreciation has grown between our students and the community. More and more each year the parents and public realize the important part the students play in molding the communities of tomorrow. Through greater facilities and a better educa- tional program, there has come a closer relationship between our school and the community, as was evident in the unusual attendance at our Open House. Although one of the younger schools in the city, Gage has done much in achieving a high standard scholastically. During the war years we collected newspapers in paper drives, we did our best in striving to cut down on materials vitally needed for war use. More recently our students have been occupying their time in making collections for the Community Fund, Red Cross, and other worthy organizations, as well as publishing the school newspaper, which gives the community a means of becoming interested in the various activities and achievements of our students. Our R.O.T.C. and Band have participated in community parades, such as at the widening and repaving of 51st Street. We have taken part in Youth Week, Clean-Up Week, American Education Week, and Brotherhood Week, as well as Open House. Let us continue to stand as a living monument for a better education and a richer and finer community.
