Adele Kostecki ln September 1939, the open doors of the new Gage'Park High School welcomed the incoming students from the neighboring schools. Among the entering students were approximately two hundred juniors, who were destined to be the leaders, founders of clubs and organizations, and the first graduates of the Gage Park High School. Endeavoring to put Gage Park High School on the map, enterprising stu- dents began to organize clubs. The girls athletically inclined decided that they would form a club that would bind them together and allow them to attempt things on a larger scale, and so the GAA. was formed. Not to be outdone, the boys went in for bowling and basketball. However, athletics were not the only interest of the third year students of Gage Park High School. An honor society was formed by students eager to obtain and maintain a high scholastic average. Such students were awarded honor pins. Since many of the boys and girls were willing to serve their school, it was decided that some special recognition should be given this group: thus, the Service Club was introduced. In each and every one of these clubs our seniors reflected their eagerness and enthusiasm to make Gage Park one of the best schools in the city of Chicago. Today this class of two hundred seniors, our future doctors, lawyers, scien- tists, nurses, secretaries, technicians, and business men, are ready to face the world. They are setting out to make a place for themselves. With enthu- siasm in their hearts, with heads held high, and with the determination to succeed, these first graduates of Gage Park are ready to find themselves. Success to the FIRST graduation class. Gage Park is proud of you.
